The 2015 Nissan Altima is available in two main configurations: 2.5 or 3.5.
The number signifies the engine specified (2.5-liter four-cylinder or
3.5-liter V6). From there, you'll have your choice of a base model (2.5
only) or increasing amounts of features through the S, SV and SL trim
The base 2.5 Altima sedan starts with 16-inch steel wheels, full power
accessories, a 4.3-inch LCD information display in the gauge cluster, a
height-adjustable driver seat, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and
a four-speaker sound system with a CD player and an auxiliary input jack.
The 2.5 S steps up to automatic headlights, keyless ignition and entry,
cruise control, a six-speaker sound system and an optional power driver
seat with six-way adjustability (i.e., a powered version of the standard
seat). It's also eligible for the Display Audio package, which contributes
a 5-inch touchscreen display, a rearview camera, a USB port, satellite
radio and smartphone app integration (NissanConnect).
The V6-engined 3.5 S comes with all of those features (including the
Display Audio package) plus 18-inch alloy wheels and steering-wheel-mounted
The 2.5 SV trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, foglights, an eight-way power
driver seat (with power lumbar adjustment), dual-zone automatic climate
control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, the contents of the Display
Audio package and remote ignition. The 3.5 SV is the same but keeps its
The Altima 2.5 SL boasts LED taillights, a heated steering wheel, leather
upholstery, heated front seats, a four-way power front passenger seat and a
nine-speaker Bose sound system. You can also get two additional packages
for the 2.5 SL: The Convenience package includes a sunroof, rear
air-conditioning vents and an auto-dimming rearview mirror, while the
Technology package bundles a 7-inch touchscreen, voice controls, a
navigation system and electronic safety features including blind-spot
monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and lane-departure warning.
The Altima 3.5 SV and SL are equipped similarly to their 2.5 counterparts,
but both come standard with the contents of the Convenience and Technology
packages. The 3.5 SL also comes exclusively with xenon headlights.
All 2015 Nissan Altimas employ front-wheel drive and a CVT.
The Altima 2.5 models are powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated
at 182 horsepower
and 180 pound-feet of torque. In Edmunds performance testing, an Altima 2.5
zipped from zero to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds, one of the quicker times we've
measured for a four-cylinder family sedan. EPA-estimated fuel economy is an
extraordinary 31 mpg combined (27 city/38 highway).
The Altima 3.5 models upgrade to a 3.5-liter V6 that pumps out 270 hp and
251 lb-ft of torque. We hustled an Altima 3.5 from zero to 60 mph in 6.2
seconds -- another impressive result. Fuel economy, too, is very good at 26
mpg combined (22 city/32 highway).

2003 Nissan Altima S - Camshaft & Crankshaft Position Sensors
2003 Nissan Altima S 2.5L W/Automatic Transmission
INTERMITTENT NO-STARTS & ROUGH-STARTS WITH NO DTCs SET.
A LOCAL AUTOSHOP HAD REPLACED ONLY THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR, MADE SURE
NO DTCs PRESENT AND OPS CHECK GOOD.
HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RETURNED.
NOW, THE SAME AUTOSHOP BELIEVES THAT THE FAULT IS WITH THE TRANSMISSION
FLEX PLATE, WHICH MAY HAVE DAMAGED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AS WELL,
ACCORDING TO HIM.
ESTIMATE IS AT ~$750.
The mechanic didn't try to replace the Crankshaft sensor alone, he went
straight for the Tranny drop. I figured go with the cheap fix first. If it
comes back, then we will look into the Flex Plate.
I replaced the recently replaced Camshaft sensor & the never been replaced
Crankshaft sensor. So far, so good.
Replacing the Camshaft sensor is a 2-minute job.
The Crankshaft sensor will likely take 30 times as long.
It seems like the Old Crankshaft Position sensor I removed was a bit high
on a resistance check, when compared to brand new sensors. With too high a
resistance value, the sensor may not make use of the full voltage it is
receiving and/or it may not return the required amount of voltage to the
Powertrain Control Module (PCM), which will lead to irregular engine
operation or a no-start condition.
Both Camshaft & Crankshaft sensors are the same part number. The 3rd
version of the sensor is encased in metal, not plastic.
The OEM part number is 23731-6N21A ($44 us)
The old part numbers were encased in plastic. These part numbers should not
be used: 23731-8J005 & 23731-8J006

Nissan recalls that problem to reprogram the ECU. What happens the crank
sensor electrical terminals seep oil into the crank sensors plug. The new
metal crank sensors correct this problem. Location of this sensor on the
back of the motor is difficult to change and you need gorrilia finger grip
to depress the connector green lock and remove the sensor. Depending on
your cars Vin# Recall Campaign # R0712 NHTSA# 07V-527. Hopefully your
factory warranty replaces the sensor no charge 5yr/60,000 mile. The
campaign only covers the ECM reprogram. The ECM reprogram makes both
sensors act as one so either will allow the car to start. Stalling and not
starting is a safety risk.

2013 Ford Fusion vs Nissan Altima 0-60 MPH Mile High Matchup Review

Altima directly compete for the same car buyer. They are both four door
mid-sized family sedans that have gotten bigger for 2013. They both get the
exact same EPA MPG but that is where the similarities end. The Fusion we
tested has a turbo-charged ecoBoost 4 cylinder engine mated to a traditional
6-speed transmission and all-wheel-drive. While the Nissan Altima gets a
bigger 6-cylinder mated to a CVT transmission. In another fun and

2014 / 2015 Nissan Altima Detailed Review and Road Test
The "family sedan" may not be very exciting, but without midsized sales
auto makers would be in a pickle. Ponder this: the five best-selling
midsized sedans in America accounted for 1.3 million of the 12.8 million
vehicles sold in 2011. With numbers like that, it's important to get your
mass-market people mover right. This means competitive fuel economy, a low
base price and swipe as much tech from your luxury brand as possible.
Either that or just wear a Nissan badge on the front. Say what? The last
generation Altima was the second best-selling car despite being long in the
tooth and filled with some questionable plastics. This Altima has a tougher
task however, it needs to compete with Honda's new Accord and Ford's sexy
Fusion which is selling like hot cakes. Can Nissan's traditional value
proposition make up the difference? Or does the Altima have something else
up its sleeve?
A design that doesn't alienate the customer you expect to return and buy
their second or third car is critical. Just ask Ford how that bubble-Taurus
redesign went in 1996. Still, midsize sedan shoppers demand some style so
Nissan's design team jammed a bit of Maxima, a pinch of Infiniti M and a
"whole-lotta" Versa into a sausage press and cut the Altima off at 191.5
inches. This makes the new Altima longer than a Camry, a hair longer than a
Maxima and essentially the same size as the Accord and Fusion. Nobody will
confuse the Altima with an Aston Martin, nor will they think their neighbor
is driving a budget Bentley. Instead the slab-sided Altima delivers clean
lines and elegant good looks. Think of it as the Midwestern farm girl to
the Fusion's Los Angeles call girl.
Since our tester was the top-of-the-line SL, the cockpit featured a heated
tilt/telescopic steering wheel, an 8-way power driver's seat and manually
adjustable lumbar support. Shoppers that chose the 3.5L V6 will be treated
to a pair of the best looking and best feeling magnesium paddle shifters
this side of a BMW M6. Seriously. There's just one problem: paddle shifters
on a car with a CVT make as much sense as a parking brake on a french
poodle. (Yet for some reason I found myself caressing their magnesium
goodness non-stop when I was behind the wheel.) Like the most entries in
this segment, the front passenger seat remains manually adjustable
regardless of trim level and upholstery. Thanks to Nissan's "Zero Gravity"
seat design, the front seats proved comfortable and didn't' aggravate my
temperamental knee during a 2 hour road trip. Since manufacturers "march to
their own drummer" when measuring legroom, take your family to the dealer
and jam them all in the car before making a purchase.
The crash diet and CVT pay dividends at the pump. The Altima 2.5 manages
27/38/31 MPG (City/Highway/Combined) and does so without direct injection,
start/stop, batteries or aero packages. What about that V6? Nissan's focus
on weight has made the Altima 3.5 lighter than the Accord V6 and Fusion 2.0
EcoBoost by over 200lbs. In our 3.5
SL I averaged an impressive 27.6MPG over a week of mixed driving. This is
notably above the 25MPG combined EPA score despite my commute and the
2,200ft mountain pass I cross twice a day. You can thank the light curb
weight and CVT for that. The Accord V6 matches the Altima's combined EPA
number and the Fusion trumps it by one MPG on paper. In the real world, the
Altima beat both by 4MPG.
When the road curves, a light chassis will only get you so far, thankfully
Nissan tuned the Altima's suspension to be compliant but surprisingly
agile. Adding to the fun-factor, all V6 models are shod with 235/45R18
rubber, notably wider than the V6 Camry's standard 215 or optional 225
tires. The suspension, curb weight and tires combine to give the Altima a
slightly higher road holding score than the Fusion 2.0 EcoBoost we got our hands on, but numbers aren't
everything. The Fusion's steering may be numb, but it manages more feeling
than the Altima and even I have to admit the CVT sucks the fun out of
aggressive driving. If that matters to you, drive past the Nissan dealer
and pick up a Fusion 2.0T with or without AWD.
Some may call this a cop-out, but in my book the Accord, Fusion and Altima
tie for first place in my mind. Here's why: each of this trio plays to a
different audience. The Fusion is gorgeous, more dynamic than the Altima
but has stumbled with the 1.6L EcoBoost quality issues. The Accord is a
traditional choice with a solid reputation and greater visibility thanks to
an enormous greenhouse. Meanwhile the new Altima is a stylish elegant sedan
with a powerful and seriously efficient V6. If I were dropping my own money
on a sedan in this category I would have a hard time choosing between the
Altima 3.5 SL and a Fusion 2.0 EcoBoost.
