2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 vs. 2017 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R - Head 2 Head Ep. 90
On this episode of Head 2 Head presented by Tire Rack (http://www.tirerack.com), Jason Cammisa and Jonny Lieberman take a hard, smoky look at the latest battle in a war that began 50 years ago. In 1967, Chevrolet introduced the Camaro to do battle against Ford’s hugely popular Mustang. The ponycar war has been raging ever since. While there have been fantastic Mustangs and Camaros for generations, there have never been two quite like these. In the white corner sits the most powerful Camaro ever. Kicking out a stonking 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, the supercharged Camaro is capable of both humbling supercars and the greatest burnouts we’ve ever seen. The Shelby is down on power but is up on magic. Also able to embarrass cars costing two or three (or four/five) times as much, the GT350R has something special going on. Which of these two performance giants is the current king of the ponycar? Watch and find out! 2012 Camaro ZL1 As Fast As Porsche or Lamborghini? Afraid So.
All of the naysayers out there that think American cars are junk, think again. This stock Camaro ZL1 turned times at the Nordschleife last week that were right there with Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari, all for 60,000 USD. Even Jeremy Clarkson has a Corvette ZR1, after he laughed at...then drove it.

2012 Camaro ZL1 laps Nürburgring in 7:41:27
GM's North American president, Mark Reuss, has confirmed a Nürburgring-Nordschleife lap time of 7 minutes and 41.27 seconds for the 2012 Camaro ZL1. That time on the full-length, 20.832 km (12.944 miles), of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit beats out such track performers as the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the BMW M3 GTS - putting the ZL1 in solid supercar territory. (Most lap times are measured on the 20.6 km stretch of the track, stopping 200 meters short of the end.) The test, though, was conducted by GM and not independently. The time was set by GM's own test driver Aaron Link.
