2012 Toyota Sienna Test Drive & Van Review

The 2012 Toyota Sienna is one of the most popular minivans on the market today. Minivans are definitely not known for their good looks but Toyota managed to inject a bit of sportiness into the design of the Sienna. Up front the Sienna gets the updated signature grill and fog lights that can be found on other popular Toyota vehicles like the Camry. The 18-inch alloy wheels are also a nice touch. Base price for the 2012 Toyota Sienna is $25,060 and the highest trim level packed with all the features and options you can image costs $40,570. But there are a total of 12 different trims that will meet the needs of most.
The 2012 Toyota Sienna comes with a choice of two engine sizes. The first is a 2.7 liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy for this engine is 19 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway. There is a second larger engine offered. This 3.5 liter V-6 engine makes 266 horsepower and 245 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy is actually better than the 4-cylinder at 18 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway. This begs the question of why even bother buying the 4-cylinder?
Unlike SUVs that try to cram a third row in; minivans are designed from the start with passenger comfort in mind. The 2012 Toyota Sienna has plenty of room for passengers both in the second and third rows. Out back the recessed cargo area adds a lot of room and with the seats folded flat and stowed there is a ton more available cargo volume. A great feature on the Toyota Sienna minivan is the large TV screen with wireless headphones.
Toyota has managed to build an impressive minivan. The Sienna rides like a dream and handles bumps with ease. On the inside the passengers are comfortable and the many different seating configurations really add utility to the vehicle. On the outside; Toyota added a bit of aggressiveness which makes the Sienna stand out from the rest of the pack. You are not going to go wrong by picking the 2012 Toyota Sienna as your minivan.

The 2012 Nissan Quest has a bold sporty look. It drives as good as it looks. The Quest fits the needs of many families out there. On the inside the seating is very comfortable and Nissan has surpassed many competitors in the layout and finish of the interior pieces and fabrics.
The 2012 Nissan Quest base model starts at $27,750 with the top of the line LE going for $41,350. The van is powered by a 3.5 liter V-6 that makes 260 horsepower and 240 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy is pretty good at 19 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway.

The Suburban has been around since 1935 and over the years it has been billed as a carryall vehicle. The 2012 Chevrolet Suburban is a full sized SUV that provides seating for 7, a big V-8 engine, and a high tow payload capacity. This full-size SUV is easy to drive with good acceleration, braking, and handling abilities. The base price for a 2012 Chevrolet Suburban is $42,220 with the top of the line LTZ 4x4 costing $58,115.
On the outside the Suburban is known for its rugged good looks. Chevy added some nice lines to break up the big boxy look. Up front the chrome grille and big headlights look good. The 18-inch aluminum wheels look nice but you can upgrade to 20-inch or 22-inch wheels. The interior of the Suburban is very functional and you can upgrade to a higher trim level or add additional packages to meet your level of luxury. The seats are heated and cooled. There is also an nice DVD entertainment system for both the 2nd and 3rd row of passengers.
The 2012 Chevy Suburban is motivated by a Vortec 5.3 liter V-8 engine that makes 320 horsepower and 335 lb-ft. of torque. The maximum towing capacity is 8100 lbs. There is a heavy duty trailering package available for only $230 that adds an oil cooler for the engine and an oil cooler for the transmission oil. The package also adds a 3.42 rear axle ratio. The Suburban has a couple of fuel saving techniques that include an Active Fuel Management system which turns-off 4 cylinders under light use. Fuel economy ratings check in at 15 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway.
If you need a full-size SUV that can fit all your family and friends along with your necessary luggage and can also tow your toys out back, the 2012 Chevrolet Suburban is for you.

2012 Honda Odyssey 12k update
It has been 8 months and my Honda Odyssey has turned over 12,000 miles. It is running great and hasn't had any major problems- but I have definitely learned about things I really like and don't like about the car. I detail these as well as the mileage I am currently getting (hint: it is lower than when the car was new and I think I know why). I also discuss the major blind spot that has caused three close calls.
