New BMW 1 Series Previewed - What Car?

Read the What Car? BMW 1 Series review http://bit.ly/A2b7nq The BMW 1 Series is the only rear-drive hatch in the class and scores with a strong combination of performance, economy and emissions across all engines. The 1 Series handles well, too. The 1 Series is one of the least practical small family cars with limited rear legroom and a small boot. It's also pricey to buy and refinement could be better. New BMW 1 Series - Interior / Design & Driving [HD]
The second generation of the BMW 1 Series offers state-of-the-art engine and suspension technology, further improvements in fuel efficiency, significantly more space and an innovative range of features and equipment. Still the only rear-wheel-driven car in its class, it builds on the strengths of its predecessor, which has already sold more than one million units worldwide. The body of the new BMW 1 Series is 85 millimetres longer than its predecessor, at 4,324 millimetres, while the wheelbase has widened by 30 millimetres to 2,690 millimetres. The car also looks more powerful because its overall width has increased by 17 millimetres to 1,765 millimetres (due to an increase in track of 51 millimetres at the front and 72 millimetres at the rear), whereas its height remains unchanged at 1,421 millimetres. The rear seats have 21 millimetres more legroom, and the luggage compartment has expanded by 30 litres to 360 litres.

BMW 1 Series Review - Fifth Gear Web TV
The brand new version of BMW's smallest car is not only bigger and faster than before, it can also connect to Twitter and Facebook using BMW's ConnectedDrive iPhone App. We flew to Germany to be some of the first people in the world to test it - and, thanks to torrential rain breaking our camera, we filmed the whole review on an iPhone.

BMW 1M Akrapovic Ride & Killer Sound : Absolute Beast
During Top Marques Monaco 2014, I had a ride in that insane BMW 1M. Not any 1M : this one has been tuned to 420hp and fitted with an Akrapovic Exhaust. The sounds need no description, it's just really loud and beautiful. Akrapovic doesn't make just noise like other Exhaust makers, they make beautiful sounds. With 420hp and a manual gearbox, this little BMW 1M really is a driver's car. Powerful and loud, it handles very well! This was probably my favourite car of the 2014 Top Marques. Thanks a lot to Dijon Auto Racing, the only official Akrapovic dealership in France ; they also can reprogram the ECU and performance parts for your car. Go check their website here : http://www.dijonautoracing.fr/ and Akrapovic products here : http://www.akrapovic.com/ Thanks also to Montpellier Auto Racing, that makes the same kind of job but in Montpellier, France. 2011 BMW M3 Road Test & Car Review - RoadflyTV with Ross Rapoport
The BMW M3 is one of the finest driver's cars ever made, and I was finally lucky enough to spend a week with one. The heart of the M3 is an exquisite 4.0L V8, making 414hp at a wild 8300rpm. Peak torque is 295 lb-ft, but that entire figure is available at just 3900rpm, a stunning mark of tractability in such a high-revving screamer. Our test car was equipped with a 7-speed DCT (BMW's name for the fancy dual-clutch gearbox), and the transmission—like other vehicle characteristics like throttle response and suspension—can be adjusted from 'nice and easy' to 'neckbreaking.' 2011 M3s equipped with this transmission have gone as low as 3.9 sec to 60mph, and 12.5 sec in the 1/4-mile. Yet due to the engine's powerband, it's remarkably civilized around town. Gearing is perfect; even in 7th gear, the car is never caught flat-footed. In fact, at 2000rpm in 7th the car will be going just 50mph! That is great for acceleration, bad for fuel economy: the M3 manages just 14 mpg city and 20 highway and gets slapped with the gaz-guzzler tax. That's really the only chink in the car's armor, and the M3 instantly became the car by which I measure all sports cars by. —Ross Rapoport, Road Test Editor and Video Host Download the window sticker and see additional photos of the M3 at http://roadflytv.com Vehicle: 2011 M3 Coupe Base Price: $58,400 Price as tested: $69,925 Engine: 4.0L 32V V8 Transmission: 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual (DCT) horsepower: 414 @ 8300 rpm Torque: 295 lb.-ft. @ 3900 rpm 0-60 MPH: 3.9-4.5 sec. 2012 BMW 1-Series Interior [120d&116i] (HD)
Exciting, elegant, innovative design The drive-train layout, with a longitudinally mounted in-line engine at the front and rear-wheel drive, is unique within the compact segment. This improves the new BMW 1-Series' handling, and is also reflected in its design, with BMW's typical proportions: long bonnet, wide wheelbase, swept-back passenger cell. The new BMW 1-Series is the embodiment of responsiveness and innovative elegance in a compact car, with a youthful, lively design and high-quality features adding to the excitement. The front of the car is dominated by the large BMW kidney-shaped radiator grille, boldly shaped headlight units and three-section air intake. The grille is tilted forwards, adding emphasis to the challenging stance of this most sporty of compact models, while the surrounding areas catch the light and create a strong sense of three-dimensionality, with four contour lines on the bonnet forming a V that points towards the grille. The typical BMW double-round headlights have accent trim across their tops. In combination with the optional bi-xenon headlights, this creates a strongly focused look, powerfully enhanced by the direction indicators set into the inner light rings of the headlights and an LED accent light. In another innovation for BMW, the side indicator lights are integrated in the exterior mirrors. From the side, the proportions of the new BMW 1-Series are even more strikingly apparent. The slightly sloping roof line, sporty, angled rear windscreen and flat side windows give the car a coupé-like feel, while the Hofmeister kink - the low forward bend at the back end of the side windows - extends well into the C-pillar, making the door aperture wider and facilitating entry to and exit from the rear seats. The design quality of the new BMW 1-Series, which is unique in the compact segment, is particularly evident in the distinctive BMW lines and dramatically curved surfaces. The characteristic BMW swage line starts at the front sidewall and rises continuously to the rear lights, its boldness giving powerful emphasis to the shoulder area, with the door openers neatly integrated into the swage line. An additional character line below the doors flows sharply upwards into the outline of the rear wheel arch. The sill line provides a similarly dynamic touch, running parallel to the road and then rising steeply at the rear wheel arch, which is nicely echoed by the outlines of the side windows. The size of the rear wheel arches draws attention to its rear-wheel-drive layout which is the reason for its excellent dynamic responses. The wide-set wheel arches reinforce the broad, powerful impression created by the back of the new BMW 1-Series. The wide-opening, slightly concave tailgate is opened by pressing the top section of the BMW emblem that sits at its centre, and the rear lights are also set well apart, creating a strong horizontal emphasis that is heightened by their deep surrounds. There are optional xenon headlights, and the rear lights consist of L-shaped banks of LEDs. An additional brake light is set into the roof spoiler. The outline of the rear apron echoes that of the front bumper, while the V-shaped emblem surround leads the eye towards the road surface, emphasizing the new BMW 1-Series' stable roadholding.
