The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is a 2+2 coupe and convertible marketed from 1955 to 1974 by Volkswagen -- combining the chassis and mechanicals of the Type 1 (Beetle), styling by Luigi Segre of the Italian carrozzeria Ghia, and hand-built bodywork by German coach-builder Karmann.
The Karmann Ghia was internally designated the Type 14. Volkswagen later introduced a variant in 1961, the Type 34 -- featuring angular bodywork and based on the newly introduced Type 3 platform.
Production doubled soon after its introduction, becoming the car most-imported into the U.S. American industrial designer Walter Dorwin Teague selected the Type 14 for his list of the world's most beautifully designed products.
Over 445,000 Karmann Ghias were produced in Germany over the car's production life -- not including the Type 34 variant. Karmann Brazil produced 41,600 cars locally for South America between 1962 and 1975.
The Volkswagen Beetle is a compact car manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen introduced in 2011 for model year 2012 as the successor to the New Beetle featuring a lower profile while retaining an overall shape recalling the original Volkswagen Beetle.
The Beetle is longer than the New Beetle (now 4,278 mm (168.4 in) and sharing the A5 (PQ35) platform with the current Volkswagen Jetta. It also has a lower profile, being 12 mm (0.5 in) lower than its predecessor and is wider, being 88 mm (3.5 in) wider. The boot is now 310 L (11 cu ft), up from 209 L (7.4 cu ft). The second generation Beetle will be built alongside the Jetta at Volkswagen's plant in Puebla, Mexico. Although early production versions in both Europe and North America have arrived with WVW VIN numbers, indicating German production.
Volkswagen projects that a convertible version will follow the coupe in 2012. A performance version, called Beetle R, is projected to follow later
Karmann-Ghia anniversary 50 years 1955-2005
On the 14th of July 1955 the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was presented to the
public. Members of the media and business were invited to the Kasino in
Georgsmarienhütte, which is close to the Karmann factory in Osnabrück.
50 years on, Karmann Ghia friends around the world are invited to take part
in these jubilee celebrations at the historical location, invited by the
big Karmann Ghia clubs of Germany with the support of numerous sponsors and
helpers. Georgsmarienhütte is situated a few kilometres south of
Osnabrück in northern Germany.
This is a short private movie of me as participant - it is not the official
video off the anniversary.

Classic VW Engine Rebuild, By Last Chance Auto Restore.com
We began with a dual port 1600 cc engine from a 1973 Volkswagen Beetle.
The engine ran with a miss and was smoking a bit . After performing a
compression test,(both wet and dry) , we determined the crankshaft and
bearings were fine.
We replaced the pistons, pots & rings. We had the valves redone and made
several upgrades along the way.....
BackyardBuild Summer 2012 Turbo VW Bug preview.mpg
Here is a preview of how the car sits now, summer 2012. I have about 95% of
the bodywork done and have coated everything with 2 layers of black epoxy
primer. Lots more tune up has yielded a good running late model classic VW
beetle. As you can see I have a bunch of work left to do on the interior,
but all the gauges and lighting function. To beef everything up on the
3SGTE engine I had to utilize an aftermarket ECU, I chose the Vi-Pec. The
last part of the video shows what this setup can do. She's fast...
