When the Porsche Boxster debuted back in 1996, it was billed as a no frills, two-seat roadster, and a less expensive alternative to the vaunted 911. Unfortunately, as the Boxster buyer matured, so did the car, out growing its purest sports car roots by adding more and more of the luxury features premium buyers now demand. So, while we welcome a third generation Boxster, we wonder if it can still stir our driving senses. Here's MotorWeek's road test review of the 2013 Porsche Boxster S.

2014 Porsche Cayman S! Is the Lightest Porsche Now the Best Porsche? - Ignition Ep. 73
On this episode of Ignition, Carlos Lago gets behind the wheel of the newest iteration of Porsche's Cayman line, the 2014 Porsche Cayman S. After some twisty road driving, Carlos meets up with pro driver Randy Pobst at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to discuss the capabilities of the new Cayman on the track. It's track ready, balanced, and can go from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds... but is it worth it's fully loaded six figure price tag? First previewed on its Boxster platform-mate, and shown at last year's Los Angeles Auto Show, the new Cayman looks more aggressive than its predecessor. From the 918 Spyder-aping looks to the scalloped air intakes on the doors to the silicone-injected hips, the car looks buffer. It's larger, too. The wheelbase has been stretched by 2.4 inches, while the overhangs on either end have been shortened by 10mm. Overall length is only up 0.1 inch. The track has been widened 40/12mm front/rear. Subscribe for more XCAR videos: http://bit.ly/U9XDKc The Porsche Boxster has, unfairly, been referred to as the Porsche you buy if you can't afford a 911. It used to have doors off of a 911, headlights from its bigger, numberier brother too. It was a bit of a Frankencar. There were some pretty major differences, though: size, price, number of seats, engine size and (most importantly) engine position. It's the mid-engine that makes it so special. It gives a Boxster amazing balance, something the 911 simply doesn't have. Anyway, the 981 generation Boxster is the first to have doors all of its own which means Porsche is taking the Boxster even more seriously as a model in its own right. It's lighter than ever, too, despite the fact that it's really rather large. I'm by no means a large chap, but the Boxster dwarfs me -- I can't imagine what'd happen when a chap looks 'big' in it; he'd have to be the size of a small maisonette. I digress. Balance is the Boxster's party piece. Its weight distribution gives you so much confidence to hurl it around a little that you can get carried away. It feels so planted that I'm pretty sure that physics has simply skipped over the Boxster. Its steering is the same electromechanical system you'll find in the 911. This is no bad thing. Y'see, while purists complain that it's not as precise as the old cars', I'm 99% certain that most people simply won't notice there's been a change. The only reason they're complaining is because someone else has, based on a race driver/handy wheelman's opinion, said it wasn't quite as good as the older version. The system works wonderfully. It still feels great, you still know which way you're pointed and where the car is. Porsche had to make the switch from hydro to electric to keep MPG figures high and CO2 emissions low. The right call was made and I'm pretty sure in five years no one will really care about it. Under the Boxster S', erm, body sits a 315bhp 3.4-litre flat six. It does two things very well -- 1) go quickly 2) make glorious noise. You'll see just how in the video. One final point on the Boxster, and it's about its looks. The rear deck reminds me of ice cream. No idea why. It just does. Enjoy this pure Drive & Sound footage of the all new 2013 Porsche Boxster S with its 3.4 flat six (315hp, 360Nm) and 7-speed PDK transmission, driven hard on German autobahn and country roads. This particular car is equipped with the optional Sport Chrono pack that allows a quicker acceleration, even sharper gear changes and better throttle response in "Sport Plus" mode. Technically the drivetrain and chasis are very similar to the new 2014 Cayman S and performance figues should be very close. I personally found the ride a bit harsh, compared to the 991 Carrera S. EcoJet: Definitive Edition - Jay Leno's Garage
EcoJet: Definitive Edition. Like all great feats of the imagination, the EcoJet began life on a napkin. As an auto enthusiast, Jay Leno had always wanted to design his own turbine-engined car, and when he conceived the notion for a high-performance, yet environmentally friendly, vehicle the pen and napkin came out. Eight months later the results were premiered at the 2006 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas. The primary goal was to design and build a car that ran on environmentally friendly, renewable bio-diesel fuel and that didn't drive like a Prius. Of course, as Jay has quipped, that makes harvest time the only time of year when there'll be plenty of fuel available, but that's beside the point. The heart of the EcoJet is a 650-horsepower Honeywell LT-101 turbine engine, which sits inside a modified Corvette Z06 hydroformed aluminum frame with aluminum and magnesium structural and chassis components. The vehicle's shell is an advanced construction of carbon fiber over Kevlar, and the body is painted with environmentally friendly paint from Glasurit's 9 Line Waterborne Technology lines, which is designed to dramatically reduce emissions during application. Though the car was built almost entirely at Jay's Big Dog Garage, the design and engineering was actually overseen by GM under the leadership of Ed Welburn, GM Vice President of Global Design and Frank Saucedo, head of GM's Design Studio in North Hollywood, California. But nobody said that designing and building an environmentally friendly supercar was quick and easy. It's been three long years since the inception of the EcoJet project, and there have been many bumps along a painstaking road. It didn't take long for its monster turbine engine to burn out clutch discs, brakes, and torque converter. Jay and the Big Dog crew always knew that the EcoJet would be a long term labor of love and a work in progress. Now that the EcoJet is finally on the road and clocking speeds in excess of 150 mph, the next step will be trying to come up with a system to muffle intake noise for a whisper quiet ride.
