1987 PONTIAC TRANS AM GTA -- A VERY SPECIAL TRANS AM
Presented here is a rare and unique edition of a Trans Am. The Trans Am
GTA. The Firebird body remained basically unchanged. All center,
high-mounted stop lamps were relocated to a new position between the
spoiler and the rear deck lid, and the large Firebird hood emblem
disappeared forever. All V8's now received factory roller camshafts, and
faced with consumer demands for more power, GM officially released the new
5.7L with tuned port fuel injection. Available only with an automatic
transmission, it produced 210 hp and takes the top performance seat from
the 5.0L L69 production is stopped, leaving the LG4 as the only remaining
carbureted V8 used in the F-body. Trans Am GTA, Gran Turismo Americano, was
introduced, available with the LB9 305 TPI engine, which was returned to
215 hp., or the L98 350 TPI. Gold 16-inch, flat-mesh, diamond-spoke wheels
were standard on GTA, with 16-inch, 20-slot wheels standard on Trans Am.
The Trans Am GTA was Pontiac's pride and joy with a standard 5.7L 350 Tuned
Port Injection (TPI). Many people like to say, incorrectly, that the engine
itself was pulled directly out of the C4 Corvette, which itself began using
the engine in 1985, but the heads on the Corvette were aluminum whereas the
Firebird heads were cast Iron. The GTA came with a standard TH-700R4
automatic transmission, A/C, new seats with inflatable lumbar and side
bolsters, special door panels, epoxy-filled emblems, body-colored ground
effects, a special GTA horn button, and the legendary WS6 performance
handling package. All of these options were packaged into the Trans Am
under the RPO code Y84, and the model was produced until the end of Third
Generation F-body production in 1992. Every thing about this GTA is
spectacular. The paint color, the muscle engine that's "clean as a
whistle", the sporty interior, T-Tops, gold colored wheels, and hatch
revealing plenty of storage. This GTA cost around $14,104 new, has a 101
inches wheelbase and weighs 3,435 lbs. U.S. production of GTA's is 9,481
and Canadian figures show 1,509 units. Thanks very much for viewing this
rare and very special 1987 Pontiac Trans Am GTA.

1987 Trans Am 355ci TPI first drive...
This is a short vid of my 87 Trans Am after I finally got the engine
running right. Before it would not idle but I figured out I had the valve
spring rocker arms tightened too tight. It is a 355ci small block chevy
with crappy truck heads along with a LT1 cam and a Tuned Port Injection
intake manifold. Exhaust is
Flowmaster, but I do not know what series. When the car is near the
phone/camera, you can hear the loud hissing coming from the engine sucking
in all that air! This is the first drive since I removed the 305 so I am
still getting used to the pedal with power! The smoke is from the
injectors running a bit rich since I had the fuel pressure turned up a bit
high. This is also a good vid to see my sequential tailights!
1987 Pontiac Trans Am GTA digital dash
An old video taken of my 1987 GTA accelerating at just over 3.4 throttle,
not quite wide open. It's a 305 TPI with the 700R4 automatic 4 speed, with
3.23 rear gears on Goodyear GS-Cs. Completely stock, about 70000 miles at
the time of the video being shot.

Bad-assed 1988 Firebird Trans Am GTA
This is my buddies 1988 GTA. It has a 434 Shafiroff motor, Brodix Heads,
TPIS Miniram intake and Nitrous. Runs
6.55 in 1/8th at 107mph and 10.20s's on the spray at 132mph in the 1/4. New
Victor E intake and 1/4 mile times soon to follow. Hoping for high 9s! All
of these times are on 275/60/15 Hoosier drag radials. Unreal!
1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 5.0 Litre 4 speed - SOLD!
As you probably know, the 3rd generation of Firebirds took flight in 1982
with 3 models including the Trans Am which is the high performance Firebird
and was completely restyled, more aerodynamic and that year voted one of
the 12 "Best Cars in the World" and also won "Best Sports GT Category in
it's price range".
This 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is a great strong running car.
Equipped with a 5.0 Litre V-8 OHV, 4 speed, it has approximately 88K miles.
Although the paint is a little weak, the interior is very good, the body
is straight and it runs GREAT!
There are also T-Tops, the rear end has been replaced with a Camaro 5-speed posi-traction rear
end, the power steering pump was rebuilt, the radiator was replaced, the
window weather stripping on doors was replaced, there are new front tires,
the side shifting plate on transmission was repaired and inspected (Stock
Saginaw) and of course the hatchback (which has new cylinders), turbo wheel covers, dual mirrors, rear deck
spoiler, heavier suspension package that includes a "quicker" steering
ratio, and full instrumentation including speedometer, trip odometer,
tachometers, gauges for oil pressure, voltage, fuel level and coolant temp,
etc. With the seats laid down, there is also a lot of room for your gear.
Don't miss your opportunity to own this great runner!
This car is in the greater Portland, OR area and is shown by appointment.
