Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Saturn Vue - etrailer.com

Today on this 2007 Saturn Vue we will be installing the Valley hitch part number V82540. Underneath the vehicle we are going to go ahead and point out the attaching points for our trailer hitch. We are going to start here at the bottom of the bumper. There are two square holes that are going to be using as attaching points. We are going to be taking the carriage bolt and the block and fishing it through the bumper structure and pulling it down into place. And then also on the sides of the frame we have two existing weld nuts that we are going to be using as attaching points as well. :30 We will be using the 12 millimeter bolts along with the conical tooth washer to attach the hitch to these weld nuts. Before we get started we want to make sure we clean out the weld nuts on the sides of the frame. What you want to do is take a spray lubricant like a WD-40 and just spray thoroughly into the weld nuts. And then you want to take a think bristled brush of some sort and go ahead and clean those out. I am actually going to be using a battery terminal cleaner. We are going to repeat that procedure for all four of the bolt holes. :57 With the weld nuts cleaned out we can go ahead and start putting our hardware into place. We are going to start by feeding the carriage bolts and block through the bumper structure and down in position. What we are going to do is take a bolt leader and feed it up through the hole at the bottom of the bumper structure and we are going to feed that all the way out to the end of the bumper itself where there is an opening. Next take our block and feed it on to the bolt leader and wrap the threads of the bolt leader around the threads of the carriage bolt. I am going to take it and feed the two pieces inside the bumper and we will just pull that through the bumper and down into place. And then we are going to do that same thing for the other hole, and then we can put put hitch up into position. We are going to attach to the carriage bolts using a conical tooth washer and a hex nut. What I am going to do is leave these nuts just loosely attached to the carriage bolts here at the bottom of the bumper for the time being because what we are going to need to do on this Saturn Vue is go ahead and cut out a section of the bumper here that is interfering with the center section of the hitch. This is going to allow the hitch to go fully up into place when you tighten it down. 2:07 I do not think we need to fully come to the end of the receiver tube, we really just need right about to the pin hole. What I am going to do is just take a marker and just kind of outline the receiver tube here. Then you want to take the hitch down and cut that section out. Now tighten it up just enough to get it flush with the bottom of the bumper. We do not want to fully tighten it at this point until we get all our bolts put in. Next we will come over here on the side of the frame and start our 12 millimeter bolts in the weld nuts. With all the bolts in place you can start torquing them down. You want to check with the directions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each individual bolt. And now that our hitch is installed we can get some final dimensions. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 15-1/ 4 inches. And from the center of the pin hole to the back of the bumper is 5-1/ 2 inches. And with the bolts torqued down that will conclude the installation of Valley hitch part number V82540 on a 2007 Saturn Vue.
