1956 Ford Thunderbird STK 1389
Some T-Birds are more special than others and I�ll argue that this '56 is one of the nicest we've seen lately. The recipient of a recent frame-off restoration (2009) from top to bottom, it is in outstanding condition throughout. In fact this car had been restored in 1989. Why then you ask was it done a second time? Because the owner has very high standards. The car comes complete with receipts and a thick restoration manual of pictures. I have to assume that the details it specifies have been followed throughout, making this a very correct car as well. NOS and date-coded parts were used wherever possible, and even the original date-coded glove box lining is included (although a replacement is currently installed in the car). The code L peacock blue with colonial White top is absolutely beautiful, applied over those classic T-Bird curves. The sheet metal work was excellent, and if there were any traces of rust, they have been thoroughly and permanently excised from the car�s skin. Panel gaps are above average, although you can tell from the photos. I guess that must be endemic to Thunderbirds, because this car looks even better in person than it does in photos. The doors open and close with precision, the forward-tilting hood fits extremely well, and the trunk lid, including the pass-through for the fuel filler, fits well. The paint has obviously been cut and buffed, because the gloss is fantastic. Trim throughout is uniformly high quality. There are a lot of original pieces that have been restored, including the bumpers and grille, as well as a bunch of NOS items that look exactly the way they did 54 years ago, sitting on the showroom floor. The windshield is the original date-coded piece, which is in extraordinary condition and is a good indicator of the gentle life this �Bird has had. The complex rear bumper that includes Exhaust outlets in the bumper guards, is fully restored to better-than-new condition, and all the bulbs and lenses are fresh. Heck, even the weather stripping is NOS, which tells you how attentive to details the restorer really was. Under the hood you'll find a nicely detailed 312 cubic inch Thunderbird (P code) V8, which when attached to a 3-speed Ford-O-Matic transmission, generated a reasonable 225 horsepower. This one is loaded up with power steering and power brakes, both of which are fully functional of course, and it has A Continental kit with all the correct pieces and parts. Details like the hoses and clamps are correct reproductions, as is the wiring harness. Finishing it off is a reproduction battery and washer fluid bag. Underneath, you�ll find that the entire frame has been treated to a correct satin black paint job before the body was reinstalled. The floors are as glossy as the body panels, and it creates an awesome background for the details that are found throughout. Brakes and suspension are rebuilt, hardware is correct and finishes are accurate wherever possible. The Exhaust system is a reproduction dual setup that duplicates the original and appears to be coated for long-lasting durability. Lines and hoses are all new, and there�s a fresh gas tank hanging out back. The interior is a real treat. The code xc peacock blue and white vinyl seat has been as beautifully restored as the exterior, and features new foam underneath for all-day driving comfort. The instruments have been fully restored and look gorgeous in that jet-age instrument panel that is framed by engine-turned metal appliqu�s that run from end to end. The dash pad and carpets are also new reproduction items that fit well and look correct�no bizarre off-brand carpets inside this 'Bird! Overhead, a beautiful canvas freshly installed and fits extremely well. The trunk features a new mat and a matching wheel and wide whitewall tire. Built from Regal Roadsters components, it features a tubular space frame, a steel reinforced fiberglass body, and accessories like A/C and power windows, this is the T-Bird you want to own if your other car is, say, a Top Fuel dragster. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the early T-Bird shape, and all that is gorgeous about that Ford sheet-metal was recaptured in composite for this red roadster. Regal Roadsters has laid up a gorgeous and well-finished product that rivals any of the original steel in terms of straightness and fit, and then someone spent a ton of time making it extra nice. There are no waves, no ripples, no signs of the fiberglass substrate visible anywhere. Gaps are excellent and everything lines up extremely well, from the original-looking scooped hood to the flush-fitting deck lid. And once it was all smooth and straight, 2-stage urethane in flaming Regal Red was laid down over every square inch, including the bumpers and wrap-around windshield frame, leaving you with an eye-popping roadster that is anything but subtle. When you pop the hood on this one, you'll find a 514 cubic inch Ford big block V8, fresh out of the Ford Racing Performance Parts catalog. But they weren't content to just drop it in as it came out of the crate. First off, you'll notice those Hilborn-style velocity stacks on top of the engine, part of a modern EFI system that gives vintage looks with modern-day performance. Right below the intake, you'll find a pair of gorgeous valve covers, custom built for this application with a vintage Thunderbird logo airbrushed on the faces. A compact polished billet aluminum accessory drive system includes power steering and air conditioning, and features a single serpentine belt just like a modern car, and it's all polished to a show finish. Look underneath and you'll find a full tube frame chassis, finished in more Regal Red with polished accents. Front suspension consists of upper and lower A-arms with adjustable coil-over shocks and a modern rack-and-pinion system. Out back, there's a beefy 4-link, again with polished and chrome plated links and coil-over shocks, and a beautifully finished Ford 9-inch rear. There's a vented and cross-drilled brake rotor at each corner, clamped by Wilwood calipers. And dig the gorgeous hand-made Exhaust system, which has been fully polished so it matches the rest of the eye candy under the car. Wheels are perfectly-sized polished aluminum Budnik 5-spoke units wearing Yokohama Advan radials. The wow factor doesn't end there. Inside you'll find a completely custom-built interior that is a modern interpretation of the already gorgeous 1955 Thunderbird's cockpit. Done in gray leather, the seats are deep buckets that are every bit as comfortable as the originals. The door panels are recreations of the originals, including the cool engine-turned inserts that stretch into the dashboard and frame the instrument panel. A custom console has been constructed to house the shifter for the 6-speed, while HVAC controls are in the dash in the usual location. The trunk is beautifully finished as well, with matching carpets and side panels. If you're looking for something a little different with a lot of horsepower and enough eyeball appeal to bring home a trophy at virtually any show you attend, I can't think of many cars that do it better than this one. This is the T-Bird you have always wanted to find. It's a locally owned, frame off, show quality restoration. Frank's Restoration was the restorer. This was done a number of years ago, 1975, and you can tell it has been kept in show condition. This car comes with several trophies. You will have to see all the photos, over 180, and the video. You can see it running and driving. Yes the underside was dusty but Andrew has cleaned it. What a car. 312 V-8 engine. Automatic transmission. Power steering. Power brakes. The more I look at this stunning Bird the more impressed I am. Yes it has some very minor paint chips. You can tell it's not been driven in the rain since it's restoration. This has to be by far the best ThunderBird I have ever owned. I think the only thing I would do is install wide white radials in place of the bias ply tires. It's the correct QE code Thunderbird bronze and XK white interior. As you can imagine we did not find anything much to do when it was serviced and safety checked. It's beautiful. For sale is a 1955 Ford Thunderbird with 31,500 original miles located in our Indianapolis showroom! One of the earliest collectibles among postwar cars, the two-seat T-Bird has, if anything, gained in popularity as the years have passed. This 1955 T-Bird went through a complete restoration back in the early 1980's, taken down to bare metal before being repainted.
