2013 Seat Ibiza Cupra
Earlier this year, Seat gave their Ibiza range a mid-cycle facelift. The models included the three-door, five-door hatch and five-door Sport Tourer (ST) but we were missing the high performance Cupra. The wait is now over after the first images of the range topper leaked unsurprisingly to the webosphere.
The styling of the model is the main focus of the upgrades, a fact that is evident in these pictures. The front fascia has received a big overhaul with a restyled grille, fog-lights, air intakes and headlights. The rear end updates meanwhile are slightly more modest with just remodeled taillights.
The existing model came with a 1.4 TSI twin charger engine mated with a 7-speed DSG gearbox and generated 180 hp (134kW/183PS). We are not expecting any major upgrades in this area so expect to see similar figures when the official figures are released on Monday. If performance remains the same, the facelifted Ibiza Cupra will accelerate from 0-100kph (0-62mph) in 7.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of 225 kph (140mph).
The new Seat Ibiza Cupra facelift will be officially unveiled to the public at Auto China in Beijing in a couple of days time.
2012 Seat Ibiza Cupra Concept
At the Volkswagen Group media evening that heralds the start of the 2012 Beijing International Motor Show, SEAT presented the SEAT Ibiza Cupra Concept as a close-to-production concept car.
The SEAT Ibiza Cupra Concept shows the SEAT DNA in its most concentrated form - amazing performance, the latest technology and comprehensive equipment clad in an emotional design that has been consistently developed. With its compact form, the Ibiza Cupra Concept is a sports car for every day, combining agile driving fun with a high degree of functionality. The series-production model of the new Ibiza Cupra will arrive towards the end of 2012.
132 kW / 180 hp, seven-speed DSG transmission with shift paddles, XDS electronic differential lock, high-performance brakes - high technological competence is just as much a given in the new SEAT Ibiza Cupra Concept as the comprehensive equipment featuring lots of innovative details. One example is the optional SEAT Portable System that combines navigation and entertainment functions and is removable for mobile use.
"With its new, powerfully accentuated design, its innovative technologies, upgraded interior and further improved quality, the new Ibiza Cupra Concept clearly shows how our brand is continuing to develop," says James Muir, Chairman of SEAT. "Emotional design and refined dynamics guarantee driving fun on every single kilometre. We are presenting the SEAT Ibiza Cupra Concept at the Beijing Motor Show because this compact athlete will be an important element in the development of our brand in this key market."
