The Reliant Motor Company - Foundation for the Future
A wonderful piece of historical footage from the Reliant Motor Company in
Tamworth. This footage is narrated by Ray Wiggin (MD of Reliant) and
featured the plans for the new production line for the Reliant Robin.

An amazing one owner Reliant Rialto Hatch SE with documented history and
just 11,183 miles from new.
Galvanised chassis, glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) body, locking fuel
filler cap, two-speed heater, interior light, twin sun visors with

This unique Reliant was ordered in Parchment, (Beige), and still looks
incredible with a new low mileage shine. All the decals and vehicle
badging are correct and present. The N/S/F coach line has been scuffed
very slightly and out of sight paint flake is present in a one inch square
section due to stone chip. The vehicle is still fitted with the Main
Dealer number plates and rear window sticker. Dealer branding extends to
the tax disc holder and key fob!
The interior of this outstanding Reliant Rialto is in fabulous factory
original condition finished in Grey crushed velour trim with red piping.
All the controls, gauges and switches function perfectly. The vehicle has
been fitted with colour coded tailor made floor mats to protect the carpets
and all the trim remains as new. The white 'choke' inscription has faded
and a small '2p' size circular stain is barely visible on the dash where an
air freshener was stuck. The front window still has the tyre pressure
sticker present. With folding rear seats allowing 30cu.ft, (849 litres)
this little car is versatile putting much larger vehicles to shame!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This superb car is in perfect mechanical order having covered such few
miles and been fully maintained. The 848cc aluminium water cooled engine
produces 40bhp and accelerates rapidly due to the overall weight of the car
only being 794kg! The four speed gearbox is tight, precise and offers a
short shift movement which is truly addictive and immense fun!
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Correct wheels with undamaged factory fitted grey wheel trims. Goodyear
G800+S 145 SR10 fitted to all three wheels and decent tread. The
hydraulically operated brakes need firm pressure which is normal with three

RELIANT RACE AT NEC AUTOSPORT SHOW
Now for a limited time only is something a little bit quirky and amusing,
and a subject very close to my heart - Reliant racing!
I learned to drive in one of these and owned one for over 3 years (a light
brown Robin estate), and used to tow my 2 racing motorcycles on a trailer
to all the meetings with it.
Let's now clear up a few myths about these marvellous machines:
Firstly there is no such thing as a "Robin Reliant", and secondly Del Boy
from "Only Fools" NEVER owned or drove a Reliant Robin, his was the Robin's
predecessor the Reliant Regal Supervan with the smaller 750cc engine and
larger wheels - a replica of which was blown up during the Olympic closing
ceremony in London a few months ago.
The Robin was ultimately followed by the Rialto with the wedge shaped front
end which you can see in the video, but the Robin came back a few years
For anyone outside of the UK this machine exploited a legal loophole in the
law and was able to be driven on a full motorcycle licence without driving
lessons, hence it's success. The vehicle is very light as the body is made
from glassfibre, and as a result was quite fast at around 98mph (for mine
Nicknames given to the Reliant vehicles include "Plastic Pig" and "The

Reliant Scimitar reborn
When Martin Port discovered two cylinders of his Ford V6 had little or no
compression, it was time for the heads to be rebuilt. As a result the
Reliant spent a couple of months in the workshop, but these are the moments
when Port could finally put his principal commuting car back on the road.

3.5 litre V8 Reliant Robin.
1976 Reliant Robin with a 3.5 litre V8 Rover engine driving off its trailer

tried to race as they trail behind sucking in the Exhaust fumes. :o) (
