Lot S125 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS 396 375 HP Auto
With the proper equipment, Chevrolet's Nova SS was an affordable bomb of a car, a formidable runner right off the showroom floor. The Nova grew from the Chevy II, Chevrolet's entry into the budget compact market. Engine choices expanded as the car grew in size until in 1968 it was redesigned on the Camaro platform, enabling the use of the 396, and renamed the Nova. Chevy thus had another big-block arrow in its quiver. Lighter than almost anything else from GM, the Nova SS396 was incredibly quick, especially the 375 horsepower L78 version.
Meanwhile, the visual side of the SS package remained as low key as ever, as demonstrated by this good-looking 1970 SS396. Cortez Silver with a Black interior, the car has been thoroughly restored and detailed to the highest level of finish. The numbers-matching drivetrain comprises the L78 big-block (more accurately a 402) and turbo-Hydramatic 400 transmission turning a 12-bolt Positraction differential. Power brakes with front discs keep things under control.
Interior options include bucket seats, console, AM radio and a soft-rim Sport steering wheel. The few outward clues to the car's performance tell the story: SS badges, black-accented grille and tail and simulated hood air intakes, not to mention those "396" callouts. Magnum-style wheels and Firestone Wide Ovals add a bit more show to this handsome big-block Nova.
Super Sleeper 1972 Nova - BIG MUSCLE
Wanna race? If so you may want to reconsider. You see this is Dru Diesner's 1972 Chevrolet Nova and it's anything but stock. From a looks perspective it's nothing special, in fact most people wouldn't put up $500 for this thing. Look a little deeper though and OH MOMMA! You see under its faded green paint lurks a twin supercharged LS2 that makes 1,160 hp... at the rear wheels. It epitomizes the term "sleeper", and is lethal to just about every other road going vehicle it comes in contact with. Big Muscle recently visited Northern Chicago to get a sample of this beast, and holy crap was it one of the best automotive experiences we've ever had.
