Transmission Repair - GM 4L60-E Transmission Re-Assembly (Rebuild)
On this video we go through the re assembly of a 4L60E Transmission. I
tried to make this video shorter for you so I skipped the bushing
installation and installing the bolts on the valve body. But you can go to
the teardown video for reference on where each bolt goes, since they're
different sizes. I will make a follow up video on bushing installation.

Transmission Repair - 4L60E Transmission Teardown Inspection
On this video we can see the disassembly of a 2006 4L60E transmission. The
most common failure on these units is 3rd. clutch burn up, the reaction sun
shell and the 2-4 band. Failure on these transmissions is not necessary the
way it is treated, rather is these common or pattern failures. Valve body
ware is also another issue and can be corrected installing a correction kit
of your choice.

ratchet shifting modes. We used our 1987 Pontiac Trans Am to demonstrate

This is part one of my front wheel drive (FWD) automatic transmission
dissection video. In this video I cover the operation of clutches, bands,
accumulators, clutch drums, the oil pump, the valve body, valves, check
balls, seals and 'o' rings, as well as the construction and function of
many of the internal hard parts of an automatic transmission. To be honest
a rear wheel drive transmission isn't much different as many of the basic
components are the same. I guess what I'm saying is that you could use the
information in this video to have a basic understanding of a rear wheel
drive automatic transmission also. It is just a basic overview of the main
components. I don't get into theory and operation so much. Just the
general operation and identification of the parts. I may make more videos
on this topic based on the comments I get so feel free to ask questions and
perhaps I'll answer them in a future video on this topic. There will also
be a separate video on the parts and operation of the torque converter as
well. When that is posted I'll post links below to that video.

For the true enthusiast, the clutch pedal and gear stick or shifter are a
JOY to use...NOT a burden. Traffic is the one exception but we are talking
about the car enthusiast. We drive fr PLEASURE, NOT to get to work or get
groceries. So traffic is not an issue when it's 7AM on a Saturday or Sunday
and you are headed to your favorite country road.
For the enthusiast, the clutch pedal is a PLUS not a minus. It is a
critical part of what makes driving a stick shift an art. Automatic is
email and manual is a hand written note. A dying art that is much more
involved and personal than email.
Making a perfect shift, makes me smile like NO paddle shift will EVER do!
Manual is a piano played with a live band, automatic is one man with a
Casio keyboard in his basement with automatic accompaniment generated by

Being able to request gears manually does NOT make a transmission
automatic. Remember in the automatics from the 80s you had "2" "L" "R"? So
automatics have allowed you to "change gears" since the 80s. This is just
like modern paddle shifters do.
NOTE: A sequential gearbox is NOT the same as the classic automatic
gearbox, but the point is, you could ALWAYS select/request gears in
automatics. So the ability to SELECT gears does not make it manual. You
need the ability to physically disengage the clutch by moving the throw out
bearing and also to physically change the actual gears. This is all
mechanically done, not electronically. It requires focus, finesse,
strength, timing and skill and it's rewarding to do correctly.
