1972 AMC Javelin SST Gateway Classic Cars Chicago #677
Up for sale in our Chicago showroom is a striking 1972 AMC Javelin SST. American Motors Company was the first automaker to offer a “Buyer Protection Plan” to back its products and promised to repair anything wrong with the car (except tires) for 12,000 miles of one year. Underneath the hood lies their 304 cubic inch small block V8, which is backed by a 3 speed manual transmission. This two owner car has under 40,000 actual miles and recently had a total frame-off restoration! Options on this stunning 1972 AMC Javelin SST for sale include: A/C, AM/FM radio, power brakes and power steering, tilt wheel, seat belts, cloth interior, and aluminum wheels wrapped in radial tires. Before the drop of horsepower in 1972 due to the EPA regulations, the Javelins equipped with the 401 V8 were propelling down the quarter mile in the mid-14 second range at about 93mph! Even the Alabama State Police ordered approximately 100 of these as pursuit vehicles, equipped with a special ‘fleet service’ version of AMC’s new 401CID 4-barrel V8 and backed by a Borg-Warner automatic transmission. An Alabama State Police Javelin was ever outrun during a pursuit and the ASP Javelins are the first recorded pony car officially used by a major police department…ever!
