KWS 410 Sprint Car Wheelie Contest at Santa Maria Speedway July, 2011
On July 9, 2011 at Santa Maria Speedway during the King of the West Golden State Challenge event, Angello's ATV Rentals hosted the third annual $1000 winner take all wheelie contest. The defending champion from last year was Brent Kaeding, but he didn't compete for it this year. This year's contestants were:
#OB1 Orval Burke Sr. - Salinas, CA
#29 Bud Kaeding - Campbell, CA
#4s Dan Simpson - Rio Vista, CA
Information about each segment follows:
#1 - Orval Burke Sr. in the OB1 Sprint Car completes his first attempt.
#2 - Bud Kaeding in the 29 Sprint Car does his first wheelie and ends up getting stuck on the berm in turn 1.
#3 - Bud Kaeding completes his other attempts and does some impressive donuts.
#4 - Bud Kaeding shows the crowd his excitement after his attempt.
#5 - Dan Simpson driving the 6s does his three attempts including hitting the wall in turn 1.
#6 - Dan Simpson does some more wheelies for the crowd on hand.
#7 - Orval Burke Sr.'s last two attempts in which the first one nearly hits the announcer and judges and the third and winning one where he loses control and ends up flipping and crashing his car near turn 4. Sorry about the blurriness in the video as my auto focus doesn't work well with fast zooming in. He didn't get his car fixed in time to compete in the A-Main later in the night.
#8 - An Interview with Orval Burke Sr. and Bud Kaeding and the fan vote on who wins the money.
After the video, Orval Burke Sr. was confirmed the winner and took some photos. Sorry if the resolution is not the best in the world as I couldn't upload this video in HD even though I recorded it in HD.
