In the great Australian V8 war, the Holden Commodore SS in recent years has
been consistently victorious. Not only has it defeated the Ford Falcon on
the motorsport battlefield, it has also wounded its arch enemy both on the
road and in the showroom.
The Blue Oval, however, is going back on the offensive with a new weapon:
the first Ford Falcon XR8 since 2010.
The Ford FG X Falcon XR8 and Holden Commodore SS V Redline cost the same
$54,690 in automatic form as we have them here, but the eight-cylinder
approach under the bonnet is different.
Ford has the on-paper advantage. The XR8 has seized the supercharged
5.0-litre V8 out of the GT that’s no longer on sale, giving it 335kW and
The Holden opts for capacity over forced induction, with a 6.0-litre V8
producing 260kW and 517Nm.
