Roadfly.com - 2011 Mazda RX-8 Review & Test Drive
The Mazda RX-8 is, simply put, one of the most pure sports cars currently being sold. At just over 3,000lb., it is incredibly agile and will stack up handling-wise with anything you can think of. Like most 'handling-first' sports cars, its acceleration is not devastating. It's the only passenger car to use a rotary engine, a 1.3L wonder of smoothness and revs, delivering 232 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and spinning all the way past 9,000! It's a bit short on torque, with just 159 lb.-ft at 5,500 rpm. But for those who like this kind of driving experience, that won't matter. Other quirks are a high appetite for fuel, and Mazda's own recommendation that you check the rotary's oil level...every time you fill up the gas tank! It's nicely packaged, though, with real seating for four adults, suicide doors to access the rear seats, and plenty of storage and a rear-seat pass-through. At $33,055 as tested, it's unlike anything else on the market. And that's worth a lot more than $33 large. —Ross Rapoport, Road Test Editor and Video Host Visit http://roadflytv.com for more pictures and a downloadable window sticker. Roadfly.com - 2011 Toyota Tacoma Road Test & Review
The 2011 Toyota Tacoma remains the preeminent midsize truck in its class; dependable, reliable, and perfect for hauling cargo or equipment. Host Ross Rapoport spent a week driving in the Tacoma and his impressions have remained unchanged since his last review of the same truck. Much like its competitors, the Tacoma's last redesign was the better part of a decade ago, but has led the pack thanks to its variety of cab-styles and sizes. Tacoma has been dominate in all areas of the competition, from the drivetrain to the interior and exterior aesthetics. For starters, we had the V6 Tacoma, its engine is a 4.0 liter V6 that boasts 236 and an impressive 266 pound feet of torque, and any body style can come in either two wheel drive or four wheel drive. Gas mileage isn't great, you get 16 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway, but it's not exactly a surprise out of a heavy work truck. Our test Tacoma is capable of hauling over 3 tons, and its interior is the most comfortable and roomy out of its competitors. Amenities are decent; satellite radio, bluetooth, GPS, plenty of ample headroom, cupholders galore. The backseat is incredibly spacious as well, our double cab was more than capable of handling a few passengers. And as an added bonus, the rear seats can lift open, revealing a work table underneath, a very handy feature for onsite usage. Some Tacoma buyers may find that the 4-banger engine that Tacoma offers might be better suited towards their needs, but we preferred the stronger of the two, and for our money, our tester the double-cab V6 4x4 Tacoma is easily the best midsize truck you can buy on the market today. Roadfly.com - 2011 Hyundai Elantra Review & Test Drive
Hyundai's Elantra, redesigned for 2011, is taking at the compact segment's big boys. It undercuts heavyweights like the Civic and Corolla in price, and offers a fuel economy rating that Hyundai has vigorously defended. The company insists that all Elantras regardless of equipment level or transmission will achieve the same 40mpg highway mileage rating. True to Hyundai form, it offers lots of cool features for the money (heated front AND rear seats, navigation, and a 'smart key' system) and the output of its 1.8L inline-four is surprisingly vigorous, at 148 horsepower and 131 lb.-ft of torque. It's not exactly fast, but Hyundai sells other cars for that. Our test car started at $17,080, but the Elantra line starts at just $15,550—an MSRP more at home in the subcompact segment, and an extraordinary value. Check out Emme Hall's review of the Elantra, including her famous laundry-basket rating and some hilarious out-takes! —Road Test Editor Visit http://roadflytv.com for more pictures and a downloadable window sticker. RoadflyTV - 2011 VW Touareg VR6 Sport Review & Test Drive
Host Ross Rapoport spent a week in the all-new 2011 Volkswagen Touareg VR6 Sport, a brand new redesigned premium SUV that is as fun to drive as it is comfortable and elegant. Sharing some design cues with the far-more expensive Porsche Cayenne, the Touareg has flowing lines and a pronounced back-end, making its silhouette look eerily similar to its European cousin. Also for 2011, the Touareg has managed to drop over 400 pounds while increasing its cargo capacity and overall size, a fairly noteworthy improvement over the course of one year. The Touareg for 2011 comes in several different engine options, including a brand new hybrid option which unfortunately we didn't get to test drive. However, our 3.6L VR6 engine, with 280 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, was more than capable of getting us around town with its ample power and acceleration. Gas mileage is decent considering the engine and the weight, you'll be mustering roughly 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. With the hybrid engine, you'll be getting slightly better numbers: a supercharged V6 with 333 horses and 324 pound feet, with gas mileage coming in at 20/27. Do the math and that extra power and mileage might not be enough to justify the additional $9,000 or so it takes to upgrade to the hybrid engine. And all of the Touaregs come with VW's 4MOTION all-wheel drive system to manage all the twists and turns your commute can throw at you. Inside, the Touareg is functional and efficient, if a little plain. The execution is user-friendly, with a highly intuitive climate control and navigation system. All in all, the cabin is practical, but doesn't contain any particular cutting-edge technology that you might expect in a SUV at this price. In fact, the Touareg doesn't contain real leather seats, a sunroof, or a third row of seats. The 2011 Touareg has undergone some very desirable upgrades and changes for this year, and remains a very powerful front-runner in the midsize and luxury SUV segment, giving many of its more expensive competitors in its class a run for their money. Our VR6 Sport Touareg starts off at $45,600 with an as tested price of $46,420. 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Review
With the video camera strapped to another Genesis Coupe just inches off my front bumper, I drop into second and hammer on the throttle mid corner to create a heroic moment. http://www.autoguide.com/manufacturer/hyundai/2013-hyundai-genesis-coupe-re view-video-1880.html What happened next could politely be described as the result of an overzealous action on my part.
