2011 BMW M3 Road Test & Car Review - RoadflyTV with Ross Rapoport
The BMW M3 is one of the finest driver's cars ever made, and I was finally lucky enough to spend a week with one. The heart of the M3 is an exquisite 4.0L V8, making 414hp at a wild 8300rpm. Peak torque is 295 lb-ft, but that entire figure is available at just 3900rpm, a stunning mark of tractability in such a high-revving screamer. Our test car was equipped with a 7-speed DCT (BMW's name for the fancy dual-clutch gearbox), and the transmission—like other vehicle characteristics like throttle response and suspension—can be adjusted from 'nice and easy' to 'neckbreaking.' 2011 M3s equipped with this transmission have gone as low as 3.9 sec to 60mph, and 12.5 sec in the 1/4-mile. Yet due to the engine's powerband, it's remarkably civilized around town. Gearing is perfect; even in 7th gear, the car is never caught flat-footed. In fact, at 2000rpm in 7th the car will be going just 50mph! That is great for acceleration, bad for fuel economy: the M3 manages just 14 mpg city and 20 highway and gets slapped with the gaz-guzzler tax. That's really the only chink in the car's armor, and the M3 instantly became the car by which I measure all sports cars by. —Ross Rapoport, Road Test Editor and Video Host Download the window sticker and see additional photos of the M3 at http://roadflytv.com Vehicle: 2011 M3 Coupe Base Price: $58,400 Price as tested: $69,925 Engine: 4.0L 32V V8 Transmission: 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual (DCT) horsepower: 414 @ 8300 rpm Torque: 295 lb.-ft. @ 3900 rpm 0-60 MPH: 3.9-4.5 sec. Roadfly.com - 2011 Mazda RX-8 Review & Test Drive
The Mazda RX-8 is, simply put, one of the most pure sports cars currently being sold. At just over 3,000lb., it is incredibly agile and will stack up handling-wise with anything you can think of. Like most 'handling-first' sports cars, its acceleration is not devastating. It's the only passenger car to use a rotary engine, a 1.3L wonder of smoothness and revs, delivering 232 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and spinning all the way past 9,000! It's a bit short on torque, with just 159 lb.-ft at 5,500 rpm. But for those who like this kind of driving experience, that won't matter. Other quirks are a high appetite for fuel, and Mazda's own recommendation that you check the rotary's oil level...every time you fill up the gas tank! It's nicely packaged, though, with real seating for four adults, suicide doors to access the rear seats, and plenty of storage and a rear-seat pass-through. At $33,055 as tested, it's unlike anything else on the market. And that's worth a lot more than $33 large. —Ross Rapoport, Road Test Editor and Video Host Visit http://roadflytv.com for more pictures and a downloadable window sticker. Roadfly.com - 2011 Subaru Forester Review & Test Drive
The 2011 Subaru Forester, as reviewed by our host Emme Hall, retains much of 2010's model's simplistic looks and drivetrain, save a few key differences. For 2011, the Forester has an upgraded engine that Boosts key areas in horsepower, torque, and gas mileage. The new engine is a 2.5 liter 4-banger that gets 170 horsepower and 174 pound feet of torque, making gas mileage 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. You can also choose to get a different trim with a turbocharged version of this engine, which will produce roughly 50 more horses and pound-feet. And all of these transmissions can come in either manual or automatic. And of course, the Forester without question gets Subaru's infamous all-wheel drive, letting the Forester hit the trails with ease. Handles are smooth and precise thanks to the AWD, and performs with aplomb. Not to mention its awesome 8.7 inches of ground clearance! Inside and out, the Subaru is functional but not stylish. Its form won't turn any heads, but what it lacks in aesthetics it more than makes up in practicality and user-friendliness. The space inside this crossover is roomier than one would expect, and the standard amenities are passable; trip computer, bluetooth & iPod integration, panoramic sunroof. As you ascend the trim levels, amenities start piling up, the more expensive trims feature rearview cameras, portable TomTom navigation screen, and more. All in all, the Forester is a pleasant ride and definitely capable of holding its own in the crowded crossover SUV category, thanks to great fuel economy, a great sticker price, and fun, precise handling. All told, the Forester starts at $23,495, with our test car coming in at $26,384. Redline Review: 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8
After seven years on the market, Hyundai proves it can build a value oriented luxury sedan that has the potential to run with the best from Germany, America, and Japan. For generation two, the 2015 Genesis now features more distinctive styling, nearly autonomous driving technology, and updated refinement bringing it closer to its direct rivals. Those of you who wants a luxury sedan that doesn't follow the norm should stop by your local Hyundai dealership, but those looking for more sportier dynamics may find some competing vehicles more to your liking.
