Op 9 september 2009 heeft het Amerikaans instituut voor Verkeersveiligheid haar 50ste verjaardag gevierd en voor deze speciale gelegenheid organiseerde ze een frontale botsing tussen een Chevrolet Bel Air 1959 en een Chevrolet Malibu 2009. De beelden van de impact illustreren de vooruitgang inzake de veiligheid van de automobiel in pakweg 50 jaar.
We tonen je dit filmpje om er je aan te herinneren dat we steeds voorzichtig moeten zijn aan het stuur van een oldtimer. Als je deze video in detail bekijkt, dan zal je zien hoe de Chevrolet 59 zich vervormt (positie van het voorste portier voor en na de crash, de verplaatsing van het stuur, de beweging van de voorste zetel, enz...), en dit alles aan amper 50 km/u per voertuig.
Misschien iets om over na te denken als je uit je dagelijkse wagen overstapt in een oldtimer voor een ritje?
