Le Mans - 1972 - Jo Bonnier fatal crash
Jo Bonnier was involved in an accident on the straight between Mulsanne Corner and Indianapolis at Le Mans in 1972 when his open-top Lola-Cosworth T280 collided with a Ferrari Daytona driven by a Swiss amateur driver Florian Vetsch. His car was catapulted into the trees and he was killed. Fellow racer Vic Elford saw the Ferrari burning furiously, and pulled his Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 over to the right side of the track and ran across the track to the Ferrari, opening the door, attempting to get Vetsch out. But Vetsch had already gotten out of the car and was on the side of the track where Elford had parked his Alfa. Elford saw Vetsch and then saw the wreckage of Bonnier's yellow Lola in the woods next to the track. According to Elford, the last he saw of Bonnier's Lola was that it was "spinning into the trees like a helicopter". Elford later handed off his Alfa to Helmut Marko, but the gearbox froze solid and they dropped out of the race. Elford later said "it was the first time in my racing career I'm glad my car broke."
Le Mans 2012 - Nissan Deltawing debuts at Le Mans
Nissan has released a video of the test at Le Mans. This will be the only chance for entrants to this year's Le Mans 24 Hours to set their cars up for the big race on June 16/17.
For Nissan, the test represented the Company's biggest commitment to the famous French endurance race to date. Nissan will power a quarter of the entire Le Mans 24 Hours field this year, with particular dominance in the LMP2 class, in which 13 out of 20 cars will use Nissan engines. The star of the show was the radical Nissan DeltaWing which aims to complete the legendary endurance race using half the fuel and half the number of tyres of its fellow Le Mans entrants. All of Nissan's key cars performed admirably, with a top 20 place for 2011 LMP2 champion team, Greaves Motorsport, and a trouble-free day of running for the experimental Nissan DeltaWing.

24h Le Mans 2012 Horror Crash Toyota TS 030 Hybrid #8 with Ferrari 458 #81
Ein spektakulärer Unfall hat bei den 24 Stunden von Le Mans für eine Schrecksekunde unter den rund 250.000 Zuschauern gesorgt und den packenden Zweikampf zwischen Audi und Toyota überschattet. Rund fünf Stunden nach Rennstart überschlug sich der an Position drei liegende Anthony Davidson mit seinem Toyota mehrmals und krachte in die Leitplanken, nachdem Ferrari-Fahrer Pierguiseppe Perazzini den TS 030 Hybriden des Briten in einer Rechtskurve am linken Hinterrad touchiert hatte.
Nach dem Crash war der frühere Formel-1-Pilot Davidson bei Bewusstsein, klagte aber über Rückenschmerzen und wurde in das Medical Center an der Rennstrecke gebracht. Wie Toyota mitteilte, gibt es keine Anzeichen auf eine Verletzung, dennoch unterzieht sich Davidson in einem Krankenhaus vorsorglich weiteren Untersuchungen.
Perazzinis Ferrari hob ebenfalls ab und rutschte in die Leitplanken. Er habe die Entfernung zu Davidson falsch eingeschätzt und zu früh eingelenkt, sagte der Italiener. Nach dem Unfall wurde die 80. Ausgabe des Langstrecken-Klassikers durch eine Safety-Car-Phase neutralisiert.

Allan McNish in the #3 Audi R18 TDI was involved in a horrific accident in the 2011 Le Mans 24 hour race. McNish made contact with the #58 Ferrari and crashed heavily into the barriers just after the Dunlop bridge. Thankfully he was able to walk away with no major injury.

Le Mans 2012 - Toyota TS030 crashes with the Nissan Deltawing
After the safety car period, because of Davidson's crash, the Toyota TS030 of Kazuki Nakajima sat close behind the leading Audi. In an attempt to follow the Audi's through traffic Nakajima hit the Nissan Deltawing. The Nissan Deltawing was out of the race and for the Toyota TS030 this was the start of a lot of problems and later retirement. A shame for 2 great cars.
