Dodge Viper Cup Race #3 @ Hallett Motor Racing Circuit
Well, since I wrecked my car, I became a spectator. So, here are 3 videos and some pictures of the race #3 at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit in Hallett, OK. It was hot and hot and hot.
Viper Days - Viper Racing League - Friday the 13th Practice Session at Hallett - 8/13/10
Friday the 13th really came into play today. This was my first practice session on the first day of the event. My personal goal for the weekend was to be in the low 1:19s which I figured I could be there by Sunday. So, I go out at 9 AM this Friday on used 6+ session tires just to refamiliarize myself with the track. I notice after a lap or two that I pulled off a 1:20.0. "Hmm..." I thought to myself. I may be able to get into the low 1:19s on my first session of the weekend rather than having to wait 2 more days. I also thought to myself, "Maybe with new tires I might be able to get into the 1:18s!" Me, being impatient you see, went for it. Well, after a couple more laps my plans were dashed; dashed to Hell! And, my car was trashed. Fortunately, it's just body parts and I'll be back on track in a few weeks. It will take longer for my ego to mend, though. :)
For some reason, my rear camera wasn't working. I wish it had been. The view from the rear when going into the tire wall would have been cool...
I've watched the crash many times. I've received several opinions about why it happened. Here's what I think... Coming into turn 8, it was normal to have the backend get a little loose. It did on my previous laps so I expected it this time too. However, this time, notice how the car get so upset going over the curbing. It's worse on the crash lap than other laps. I also took more curb on the crash lap than previous laps. I think the backend started coming around and I attempted to coutersteer out of it but the car was too upset and just didn't respond. If I'm wrong, let me know what you think.
We got the car back on track later the same day. However, the hood pins must have been weakened during the crash. So, coming around turn 1 the hood popped open, crashed into my windshield, broke over my roof, and broke out my rear glass. Friday the 13th just isn't my day...

Hallett Motor Racing Circuit Mark Bettin Memorial 09
A small clip of a few laps at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit. This was a good event and the first annual Mark Bettin Memorial. This was a great event with plenty of open track time. We will miss Mark, and I hope we can keep the memorial alive!!
