This means you can expect a high level of quality and luxury in each vehicle Volkswagen produces. Second, the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta has a very low base price at $15,515 making is one of the least expensive vehicles in the compact sedan segment. Finally, the Volkswagen Jetta is produced right here in the Good Old U.S.A. at a plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This is great for those looking to buy automobiles that support jobs in America.
There are more than 50 different trim levels on the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta. These include variations on engines, feature packages, and body style (sedan or wagon). The very base model starts at $15,515 with the SEL seen here starting at $23,445. The top of the line model is the TDI Wagon with sunroof and navigation going for $29,220.
The engine choices are plentiful with 4 different engines being offered on the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta. The first engine is the most basic. The last engine is the venerable TDI which is a turbocharged and direct injected diesel engine. This 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine makes 140 horsepower and a huge 236 lb-ft. of torque while returning 30 MPG in the city and 42 MPG on the highway. All of these fuel economy figures are with the 6-speed manual transmission installed. With the Automatic transmission the figures drop just a bit.
The 2012 Volkswagen Jetta has a ton of usable interior space. In fact the Jetta seems more like a mid-size than a compact sedan. There is over 3 feet of rear legroom which according to VW is more than most large sedans. And with the Wagon model you can get 67 cubic feet of cargo space. There is an optional seating surface called V-Tex leatherette which looks and feel like leather but cost much less. The Jetta SEL comes standard with heated front seats as well. Since the SEL is one of the more expensive trims it does come loaded with lots of great technology. There sound system is a 400 watt Fender Stereo with a subwoofer and 8 speakers. A touch screen navigation system is also standard on the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta SEL.
The Jetta is available in many different trims and configurations so that there will be a model to suit you. The 2012 Volkswagen Jetta is a great deal as it is one of the most fuel efficient compact sedans on the market.

The 2012 Volkswagen GTI is powered by a direct injection turbocharged 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft. of torque. While this may not seem like a ton of power, it is more than enough for the everyday driver. Power is transmitted through a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission to the front wheels. The automatic transmission is called the DSG which stands for Direct-Shift Gearbox. This double clutch electronically controlled transmission can execute a shift in mere milliseconds. This helps performance figures such as 0-60 MPH as well as adding to the fuel economy of the GTI. The manual transmission model gets 21 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway while the DSG automatic transmission model gets 24 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway.
On the inside of the 2012 Volkswagen GTI you have 2 choices when it comes to seating material. There are the cloth seats that are very unique and serve as a tribute to the first GTI from the 1970's. On the other hand you can get your GTI with top sports seats that are finished in leather and provide a comfortable yet firm feel. The rest of the interior of the 2012 Volkswagen GTI is accented here and there with awesome red stitching on the shift boot and steering wheel. Speaking of the steering wheel; this flat bottom unit has integrated controls for the stereo. The pedals are also very sporty and race inspired.
The GTI also features a ton of technology built in. 2012 Buick Regal GS Turbo Test Drive & Car Review

Volkswagen's GLI returns as an all new model for 2012, based on the all-new Jetta platform. Underneath the familiar Jetta body, the GLI has been tuned for performance, with a specialized sporty suspension system and some tech items lifted from the popular GTI. Volkswagen says the GLI is the most differentiated Jetta model ever made by the company, offering aggressive performance in an easy-to-live-with package.
A turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder is the only engine offered on the GLI for 2012. It makes 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque at just 1,700 rpm, which helps improve response and drivability. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, but Volkswagen also offers an optional 6-speed DSG automatic, which features steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Volkswagen says the powertrain should be good for 31 mpg highway with the manual and 32 mpg highway with the DSG automatic.
The GLI features a track-tuned 4-wheel independent suspension system much like what's used on the GTI, as well as the GTI's XDS differential system, which helps limit inside wheelspin under hard cornering. Four-wheel disc brakes with red calipers are standard across the line, all of which add up to much sharper handling and road feel than what's offered on other Jetta models.
Standard safety equipment includes driver and front passenger airbags, front side airbags, and side curtain airbags for both front and rear passengers. Other features include electronic stability control, tire pressure monitors, and Volkswagen's Intelligent Crash Response System, which automatically cuts power to the fuel pump, unlocks the doors, and turns on the 4-way hazard lights in certain types of accidents.
Three GLI trims are available for 2011: the GLI, GLI Autobahn and GLI Autobahn with Navigation. The GLI starts at $23,495, and features cloth sport seats with red stitching, a flat-bottom steering wheel, a 6.5-inch touchscreen stereo with Bluetooth and iPod connectivity and one-touch power windows on all four doors. The GLI Autobahn is priced at $25,545 and it takes the package one step further, offering 18-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, a Fender sound system, dual-zone climate control and heated V-Tex leatherette seats. The premium-level GLI Autobahn with Navigation is offered at $26,445, featuring in-dash navigation, as well as keyless entry with push-button start.
