Big Muscle continues its New York adventure with its second installment on the cars of Queens, NY. This week we're taking a look at a stunning 1967 Buick GS 400 and a highly modified 1969 Dodge Charger. These are not garage queens, but two bad-ass muscle cars that see duty on the open road, local road and auto-x courses and of course the occasional trip to the drag strip.
1968 Charger / 1969 Daytona - BIG MUSCLE Garage
The 1968 Dodge Charger and the 1969 Dodge Daytona. Two cars based off the same platform with very different personalities. These two old sleds are different though, 'cause well, they belong to me (your host) and they're the reason that BIG MUSCLE exists today. These are not show ponies, cruisers or weekend projects, but two warhorses that have been run in some of the toughest long distance and performance events in the United States. Built for reliability, power and performance, they are not technological marvels, but old school resto-mods that have been updated for one reason and one reason only - to put smiles on the faces of all those who see them.
The Cars of Queens: Part I - BIG MUSCLE
Before BIG MUSCLE had its feet planted firmly in West Coast soil, it was stationed here... in beautiful Queens, NY. Now while most people would never think of Queens as a destination spot, believe me when I tell you that in this land of graffiti, window bars and padlocks lies some of the coolest muscle cars that you're ever likely to see. This is Part I of BIG MUSCLEs two part episode on the "Cars of Queens". In this episode we take a look at a wicked 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS drop-top and a stunning 1968 Dodge Coronet R/T. Both cars have been updated accordingly in all departments and both cars were conceived to be, at their cores, bad-ass New York street fighters.
1955 Ford Thunderbird: Back in Black -- BIG MUSCLE
It's been in the same family for the better part of 50 years. Been modified with performance and weight savings in mind, and is one of the sleekest looking cars we've ever come across. This 1955 Ford Thunderbird is no secretaries car, but a purpose built award winning street machine that was built in a time before resto-modding old cars was all the rage.
Mitch Allread: Don't Call it a Rat Rod... - BIG MUSCLE
It packs a 400 hp diesel out of a Ford F-350, a Dana 80 rear-end, and a look and feel that would make Max Rockatansky feel right at home. This is Mitch Allread's custom fabricated creation and it is, without a doubt, one of the coolest things on the road today. This is a machine that transcends the traditional hot rod formula by breaking down borders and setting its own stage.
Whereas most hot-rods are built by custom shops utilizing parts from mail order catalogs, Mitch took a different approach and fabricated just about everything on his ride by hand. Calling this a rat-rod would be an insult - a work of art however... that'd be just fine.

As the first season of tuned comes to an end, we re-visit all the cars we've tested so far, provide some behind the scenes information, and answer viewers comments.
Super Sleeper 1972 Nova - BIG MUSCLE
Wanna race? If so you may want to reconsider. You see this is Dru Diesner's 1972 Chevrolet Nova and it's anything but stock. From a looks perspective it's nothing special, in fact most people wouldn't put up $500 for this thing. Look a little deeper though and OH MOMMA! You see under its faded green paint lurks a twin supercharged LS2 that makes 1,160 hp... at the rear wheels. It epitomizes the term "sleeper", and is lethal to just about every other road going vehicle it comes in contact with. Big Muscle recently visited Northern Chicago to get a sample of this beast, and holy crap was it one of the best automotive experiences we've ever had.
1979 Dodge Little Red Express: The Original Muscle Truck -- BIG MUSCLE
It's the Granddaddy of the muscle truck. The original gangster, and the one that broke the mold when it came to straight-line American speed in the late 1970's. The Little Red Express Truck was a twin-stacked, small block powered pickup truck from Dodge that was you're worst nightmare if you happened to own a Ferrari 308, Trans Am or Corvette back in 1978 or 1979. Big on style as well as performance, the Little Red's are some of the rarest and coolest trucks to ever come out of Detroit, and with the power to back up the looks, it's no wonder they've generated a cult following amongst dedicated enthusiasts.
1971 Chevrolet Camaro: Mary Pozzi, Queen of Grip - BIG MUSCLE
For its season opener BIG MUSCLE hangs out with the Queen of Grip herself, Mary Pozzi. We traveled to Northern California to meet up with Mary, husband David and her highly modified LS2 powered 1971 Chevrolet Camaro. We talked racing, car set-up, touched on her SCCA autocross championships as well as her inclusion in Sony's upcoming Gran Turismo 6. Then we took out her stunning prized Camaro for an all day flog in the California canyons.
1950 Chevrolet: Morrison Farm Truck - BIG MUSCLE
The 1950 Chevrolet 3100 Series pickup is the quintessential American farm truck. However, after Craig Morrison of Art Morrison Enterprises found it languishing in someone's front yard, this little farm truck went from all-slo, to all-go. The original chassis was removed in favor of a new GT Sport bolt-on unit, as was the original Chevy straight-six engine. In its place sits a new GM Performance Parts crate motor with EFI injection that's coupled to a Hughes Performance 4L60E automatic transmission. With the original paint and interior still intact, this old truck has been given a new lease on life while still retaining all the heritage that made it great over 60 years ago.
CTS-V Powered '68 Camaro Drop Top - BIG MUSCLE
Finding the right balance between a well tuned street car and a flat-out performance car is no easy task. However that didn't stop Southern California resident Bob Hall from building what may just be one of the best vehicles we've ever driven. He started with an ultra clean 1968 Camaro SS convertible, fitted it with a supercharged LSA mill from a 2009 Cadillac CTS-V, reworked the entire drivetrain and suspension, and in the end, created a car that's 44 years old but feels like it rolled out of the factory yesterday.
1949 Dodge Wayfarer: Gangster Style - BIG MUSCLE
Black paint, steel wheels and a look and feel that any high ranking mobster would kill for. This is the 1949 Dodge Wayfarer and unbeknownst to some, it's one of the coolest old school hot-rods we've ever seen. Owner Dan Zuccaro has taken a vehicle with humble roots and transformed it into a superb driver, show stopper and bad-ass street rod that steals the show wherever it goes.
