Astro Van Spring Failure
Yes I got several calls the other night from people seeing the Possum Van on TV. Everyone was excited, high fivin, yelling "Possum Van" wile they were watching Canadian Pickers, and the stopped the camera on the Possum Van, wile the narrator something like "Possum, Weird". I am sure I will get a copy of that episode, and violate all copy rights by posting it up here.
The latest Possum Van keeps on truckin, but is getting its own issues. I refuse to give it too much love cause I am so excited with my latest discovery of the VW starting, with little protest, on what I call D20. thats 20% diesel and 80% fryer fat rite out of the old deep fryer, filtered through an over sized coffee filter. I will have a video of that operation up next week. Point being, I am motivated to finish the VW diesel Possum Van, then fix the biodiesel reactor, and never stop at another gas station to buy gas again. I will refer to them as bathroom stations, cause they aren't good to me for anything else.

2000 chevy astro A/C problem fix
this is how to fix the a/c problem is this style of van. the symptoms of this problem are the air will only blow out of the defrost and floor, which causes poor heating and cooling. with a little of your time, this is a cheeap fix, less than $10.

Leaf Spring Upgrade
The Astro Van has taken some serious abuse this year, hauling around a ton of copper, and towing the big trailer full of more copper and tools. Until today I have put air bag suspension on everything I drive. I got a few air leaks in a couple of air bags, and decided to go with a more permanent trailer hauling solution for the Chevy Astro Van. I stopped in at the local Alberta Spring and Trailer, got myself a set of steal leaf springs, to replace the cracking fiberglass springs, and 4 extra 1/4" thick steel leafs. I also picked up some coil over shock helper springs. The over all result is very heavy rear suspension which can haul anything now. The next area to address would be the tires. Now I can get so much weight in the van the tires look low because they can't hold enough psi.

This has a 4.3L V6 making only 190 HP while paired to a 4 Speed auto.
Always saw this as the biggest POS out there. Terrible Interior quality, Terrible Ride, Horrible leg & foot rom for the Front Passenger & driver, the rear mount A/C is in a terrible position, HORRIBLE MPG's as its not so easy for the underpowered 4.3L V6 to pull around this rolling around this dumpster.
The van still carries over 1980's engineering and has looked overall the same since 1985............. And Most importantly they have one of the worst Crash Test rating when it comes to offset test. The Body just buckles & the drivers body is pressed onto the dash & steering wheel which mean absolute death.
These vans do offer AWD but its a version of this van that is quite avoided as the transfer case in these has proven problematic when they have high mileage. This van was also offered as the GMC Safari.
