This properly restored 1969 Firebird convertible features a fresh 428, 4-speed trans, electric door poppers and a killer paint job. This is a slam dunk of a drop-top cruiser that's ready for the show field or the open road. The quality work throughout the body is apparent. The beautiful champagne colored paint is laid over a solid, straight, steel body. This car is super clean, as you can see by the pictures. The gaps and margins are precise. The door and trunk lips and jambs are solid, clean and rust free. The flame details around the car are very well done, and not over the top. The chrome around the grille and rear bumper is in great shape. It has all been buffed to an eye-popping shine. Mechanically, this car is the real deal. The 428 cubic inch engine runs awesome. Underneath that polished aluminum Edelbrock intake are two Edelbrock 4 barrel carbs. That's right, this baby has dual quads. There is an MSD ignition, MSD coil and an MSD distributor. A chrome alternator, tach adapter, Accel spark plug wires and more were included in the restoration. Up front is a new radiator, flex fan and fan shroud. The engine bay is exceptionally well detailed throughout, with a fresh coat of flat black paint on the nose and inner fenders. A recent alignment, power steering and power brakes make this drop top one smooth ride! Underneath, it's just as nice. The Muncie 4-speed transmission feeds a 10 bolt 3:23 posi-traction rear end. There is a new gas tank, a new drive shaft with new u-joints, polished traction bars and drum brakes out back. The Exhaust system is in great shape and is equipped with Glass Pack mufflers for a nice sounding rumble. The floorboards and rockers are in excellent condition. Up front you will find chrome headers, a sway bar and new shocks. The front suspension has had the bushings and ball joints replaced in the last few years. There is a trans cooler and a fresh rebuild on the starter as well. All of the steering is tight and clean. Sitting at all four corners are Cooper GT tires (2-45-60-15's out back and 2-15-70-15's up front) and American Racing chrome wheels. The black interior is very well done. The front bucket seats and the back bench seat are both in near perfect condition and have seatbelts for everyone. In between the front seats is the Hurst shifter. Check out that beautiful wood steering wheel, which nicely matches the wood grain gauge panel. The dash is in great condition as well. There are power windows, electric door poppers for the doors and trunk, and a functional hood tach. There is also an aftermarket column mounted tach. Door panels, carpets, and the black vinyl convertible top, are all in excellent condition. Out back, the trunk has a fresh mat and the shakers. Calling this a nice car just doesn't do it justice. This is a gorgeous car with an impeccable pedigree and a huge helping of performance thrown in just for fun. All told only 1286 Trans Ams were completed V(828 automatics, & 458 4-speeds). At the plant, over 2,100 Firebird and Camaro models were in various stages of assembly when the strike ended, but as these cars would not meet the new 1973 Federal standards, these cars were all scrapped ! The 1972 Trans Am production would hold the distinction of being the second lowest in history. A new cylinder head rested atop the 4-bolt block, this had a new casting number of 7F6 and was only used in 1972 and had special combustion chambers. The good part about these new heads is that they still used the horsepower producing oval ports and the accompanying large 2.11" intake and 1.77" inch Exhaust valves found in big inch Pontiac high performance engines of the past. The 068 camshaft was back for another run in the TA, and the lift remained at .408/.406 inches for intake and Exhaust. As in 1971, there was only one engine available in the Trans Am and it was subject to same hand selection of components in order to make the engines as close to the tolerances laid out in the blueprints. This engine could be mated to a pair of transmissions, the infamous "M22 Rock Crusher" Muncie 4-speed close ratio manual transmission or the sturdy 3-speed turboHydramatic 400 automatic transmission. This was the 1st year for the honey comb grille, and the last year of a functional shaker hood. The colors once again remined limited to Cameo White with blue stripes or Lucerne Blue topped with a white stripe. Lucerne Blue would have it's swan song in 1972 as a blue would not return to the Trans Am line up until 1974. The "racing' stripes that were first intoduced in '69 also made their last appearance in 1972 and no Trans Am would be striped as such until the 15th anniversary T/A in 1984.

Recently, the car underwent a high quality frame up restoration which gave it great looks to match its awesome performance; and today, its straight body is well aligned from virtually every angle and features a bright coat of correct GM code 72 Carousel Red that has been buffed to a great looking shine. Pop the hood on this decked out Firebird convertible and you'll find the cars original 400 cubic inch Pontiac V8 which wears a correct 9790071 casting number, a correct 132531 partial VIN and a coveted "WZ" block code. As the most legendary motor produced by GM's excitement division, this performance bred big block utilizes open chamber heads, bigger valves, a hotter cam, a cast crank and cast rods to churn out an impressive 330 horsepower and a stout 430 lb./ft. of torque! Take one look underneath this '69 'bird and you'll find a clean undercarriage that is ready to tackle virtually any road, anywhere. Solid floors, which are nicely finished in fresh protective undercoating, sit above a super clean frame that is laser straight and has obviously been restored at one point in the cars life. Traveling up and down the floorpan is a series of dent-free stainless fuel and brake lines which run to either a new stainless fuel tank or correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. In the middle of the chassis the car's original Muncie M20 4-speed transmission, which wears a correct 3925660 casting number, a February (B) 15th (15) of 1969 (9) Muncie (P) M20 (A) build stamp and a correct 132531 partial VIN, sends power through a fresh driveshaft to a correct 12 bolt Safe-T-Track rear end. The cars original double A-arm front and leaf spring rear suspension has been completely rebuilt to factory specifications and features correct power steering and a correct front sway bar. And a fresh mandrel bent true dual Exhaust system lines an H-pipe crossover up with rust-free turbo mufflers to create one of the toughest Exhaust notes in the classic car hobby. Power flows to the pavement through correct 14 inch Pontiac Rally II wheels which wear vintage looking G70-14 Goodyear Rally tires and spin cool red lettered "PMD" center caps in the middle of traditional chrome lug nuts. Inside this killer Pontiac you'll find an original GM code 208 black vinyl interior which, when combined with the cars Carousel Red paint, creates the ultimate Firebird color palette. This is my 1969 Pontiac Firebird 400 project-Plans for this car are drum to disc brakes upgrades first! You can hear the old drums squeeking as I brake! suspension, interior, and house of kolor candy apple red paint with black rally stripes! Audio system and interior are already being worked on. Also im planning to lower it 2 inches all around. Im debating on wether to paint the wheels black or match them kandy apple red? or try to combine both black and candy red for the rims? What do you think? Engine is a freshly rebuilt 400 block, .060 bored, hooker headers, holley carb, holley electric fuel pump, and dual flowmasters. For now not focusing on the engine but I've been thinking about rebuilding a faster 400 and upgrading the automatic transmission to a manual shift 5 speed. Not trying to build a car show quality or a superfast car, mostly a cruiser and once in a while fun at the drag strip.
