2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 WINDING ROAD POV Test Drive
Dodge was founded in 1900 by the Dodge brothers - Horace and John Dodge -
as the Dodge Brothers Company, parts and assemblies to the burgeoning
Detroit automobile supply industry. The company was successful from the
start and picked up regular work production engines and chassis for the
Olds Motor Vehicle Company and the Ford Motor Company.
The demands and pressures of the booming automobile industry, however, soon
led the brothers to tinker with the idea of producing their own
complete cars. Co - founder John Dodge has once proclaimed in 1913 that "he
who is born in the area of Henry Ford's vest pocket tired " was.
The first car of the Dodge Brothers Company was the Dodge Model 30 that
several important concepts in the years to come standard, such as an all
steel body, 12- volt electrical system and a sliding door gear were
introduced. The Dodge car was displayed prior to its entry into automobile
manufacturing a hit from the start , with so much on the quality and
durability of the car as on the exemplary work ethic of the brothers over
the years. After 1916, the Dodge cars were the second largest sale in the
U.S., only behind the Ford Model T.
After the death of the Dodge brothers in 1920, the company Reed & Co. was
initially Dillon, sold for a reported $ 146 million ( the largest financial
transaction in history) and later by Chrysler for a $ 170 million shares.
Until that time, Dodge had not fallen on. 7 in the U.S. automotive sales
An important turning point in the fortunes of Dodge engines was the
Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States' entry into World War
II. The Dodge brand was particularly successful in the Chrysler line of
products as a military vehicle because of the durability of its light
The post-war years and that era insatiable appetite for cars led to
increased sales of automobiles across manufacturers, and Dodge enjoyed a
resurgence in popularity among the civilian population (it was already a
popular military transport vehicle). The year 1953 saw the introduction of
the first V8 engine, well in time for America's discovery of the joys of
motorway travel. The larger, more Dodge cars have been well improved by the
American public during this time and revenue each year.
Dodge was one of the major players in the late 1960s and '70s muscle car
market, and is fondly remembered today. Than creator of some of the most
popular muscle cars of that period The cumbersome, inefficient fuel Dodges
were not prepared for the oil crisis of 1973, when the demand for
efficient, smaller cars increased. The financially strained parent company,
Chrysler, could not move fast enough to change his line up to cater to this
new challenge, and in 1979, the and received federal loan guarantees, to
protect them from a certain near bankruptcy.
After the bankruptcy near experience, Dodge Chrysler parent company
branched out into smaller, more efficient models like the caravan. Dodge,
but retained its sporty / aggressive line with the introduction of models
such as the Dodge Spirit and the still popular Dodge Viper.
At the present time, Dodge is known for its aggressively styled cars like
the Dodge Challenger and Charger and its powerful, robust truck, the Dodge
Ram and Dodge Dakota. Despite the company 's most important market of
pickup trucks and large sport cars see a significant drop in demand due to
the rising cost of fuel and the economic recession Dodge has continued to
remain strong in the North American market.
