Edsel Ford talks about Ford Racing's NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Car - 2013 Ford Fusion Stock Car
http://www.autobytel.com/ford Autobytel recently caught up with the one and only Edsel Ford II at the Ford NASCAR Championship Weekend at the Homestead-Miami Speedway for a closer look at the all new 2013 Ford Fusion Sprint Cup race car.
Mr. Ford tells us: "we are in Homestead Florida for the Ford Championship Weekend for the nationwide truck race and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Race. As a matter of fact, Ford is in all series; we use the F-150 in the truck series, and we introduced the Mustang in the nationwide series just last year. Then of course we have the brand new 2013 Ford Fusion stock car which will be introduced in Daytona early 2013."
Ford has worked very diligently with NASCAR and the other automobile manufactures to produce stock cars that look more like the cars that are sold at dealerships across the country. The new 2013 Ford Fusion looks more like a stock car than the previous model and NASCAR has been very good in regards to allowing the look of the race car to resemble the model on showroom floors.
NASCAR racing fans are as loyal a customer as one can find. Ford finds (through research) that NASCAR lovers that are also Ford customers are very loyal. That is why Ford thinks racing is a good loyalty builder. Edsel Ford's father once said many years ago: "If you can win on Sunday, you can sell on Monday." Ford still believes that statement today even though it was said 40 years ago.

2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid NASCAR Pace Car - Ridealong with David Ragan @ Homestead Speedway
http://www.autobytel.com/ford/fusion-hybrid/2013/ David Ragan takes us for a couple of hot laps around Homestead Speedway in a new 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid. At speeds of over 100 MPH the Fusion still gets over 25 MPH. The Fusion Hybrid has a base price of $27,700 and gets 47 MPG in the city and 47 MPG on the highway. The hybrid power plant consists of a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder gas engine paired with an electric motor. These two systems combine to create 188 horsepower. The Fusion Hybrid has the ability to travel up to 62 miles per hour on just the electric motor alone; this help city fuel economy. The Fusion's Lithium Ion Battery is recharged by the Regenerative Braking System. The Fusion Hybrid also has a SmartGuage that will help the driver to drive more efficiently. The eCVT transmission and aerodynamic design help the Fusion in the fuel saving department. All these systems combine to create one efficient sedan.
According to David: NASCAR racers "joke about fuel economy but we have been running 95-100 MPH and we are still averaging 25 MPG. It's crazy; this is a sweet car and it handles great! I think the look of the new 2013 Ford Fusion is gonna catch a lot of people. The Fusion has always been a sharp car but I think they did a nice job with the 2013 model. Then having our racecar mirror image what the 2013 street version of the Ford Fusion will look like is going to be great. You will get the sense that hey, I am driving what the guys are racing on the track. When you get into the Ford Fusion hybrid and notice the navigation, seats, instrument panel, ect; it is great. Ford is selling a lot of Fusion Hybrids and people really like them. Many people are trading in their other cars and I see younger people buying this slick car. The Ford Fusion Hybrid is a car that can take the family on trips since the fuel mileage is so great. But also the Fusion Hybrid is good around town going out to dinner. This thing is made to run 75 MPH not 105 MPH.

Ford F-150 EcoBoost NASCAR Truck Series Pace Car with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. @ Homestead Speedway
http://www.autobytel.com/ford/f-150/2013/ Ricky Stenhouse Jr. takes us along for a few laps around Homestead Speedway in Miami during the Ford Championship Weekend. This track happens to be his favorite on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Ricky's crew chief owns a Ford F-150 EcoBoost and he gets better fuel economy with more power. The pace truck is a good way for Ford to showcase something new and these EcoBoost engines have been a huge hit so far. The 2013 Ford F-150 FX2 with the optional EcoBoost engine has an MSRP of just over $37k. The 3.5 Liter Twin turbo V-6 EcoBoost engine is capable of putting out 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft. of torque while getting 16 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway.
Homestead Speedway is Ricky's favorite track. He elaborates by telling us: "For one, you run up near the wall. Two the tires wear out because the asphalt is getting a little older so you are sliding around a lot. But it's a racetrack you can run the bottom, the middle, and the top. I know there has been a few times where we have been four and five cars wide at this racetrack and that's always exciting for the fans and for the drivers. The line we are running now is my favorite. To get the speed going you run up around the top. If you have a run on somebody coming down the straightaway and you want to make a pass, my favorite way to do it is to run down on the bottom while they are on the top. Make a straight line and slide up in front of them. They have to lift and turn and drive a different way and you get back on the gas beating them off the corner. It's one of the coolest ways to get around the racetrack. I feel like the entry on turn one is a little more narrow, it turns in quicker. Off of turn two is good. It's a little flat into turn three then all of the sudden you pick up the banking and you can really use a lot of throttle up off of turn four. A lot of people get sideways on turn four. The higher you run the more banking there is and that's why we run this top grove because it's progressively banked. Then it's always cool coming down off of turn four with the grandstands. It is a lot of fun."

The Porsche 917 is a racecar that gave Porsche its first overall wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 and 1971. Powered by the Type 912 flat-12 engine of 4.5, 4.9, or 5 litres, the 917/30 variant was capable of a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 2.3 seconds, 0--124 mph (200 km/h) in 5.3 seconds, and a top speed of over 240 mph (390 km/h)[citation needed].
There are 6 variants of the 917. The least-powerful version is the 917K (the most successful), which produces around 620 bhp. There is also a long-tail version (917LH), a "pig" version, modified 917K with the 908 rear spoilers and the 917/30. In the 1973 Can-Am series, the turbocharged version Porsche 917/30 developed over 1,100 bhp (820 kW), and as much as 1,580 bhp (1,180 kW) in qualifying tune.
The 917 is one of the most iconic sports racing cars of all time, largely for its high speeds and high power outputs, and was made into a movie star by Steve McQueen in his 1971 film Le Mans.
2009 marked the 40th anniversary of the 917, and Porsche held a special birthday celebration at the Goodwood Festival of Speed
On 9 August 1975, Porsche and Penske would give the Can-Am car its final send off in style, when they took their 917/30 to Talladega to break the FIA speed record on a closed circuit. With Mark Donohue driving, the average speed reached was 221.160 mph (355.923 km/h).[6] As well as being the last official outing for the 917, it was the last major accomplishment for Donohue before his fatal accident in practice for the Austrian Grand Prix a week later. The record would stand until 1980.
Several 917 coupés as well as 917/10s (powered by turbos or NA engines) were run in Europe's Interserie until the mid-1970s.
Many 917 leftover parts, especially chassis, suspension and brake components, would be used to build the Porsche 936 in 1976.
Despite the car's impracticality, at least two 917s were road-registered.
Count Rossi of the Martini concern, bought chassis 030 from Porsche. He raced it once under the Martini Racing Team Flag at the Zeltweg 1000km World Championship race on 27th June 1971. After the race, it was returned to the factory where it was modifed with basic road equipment (exterior mirrors, turn signals, Exhaust system and comfort modifications) and painted silver. European authorities refused to certify the car for road use and Rossi obtained the Alabama plate 61-27737 to circumvent the problems.[7]
The second, for Joachim Grossmann, was painted white and given the German registration CW-K 917. The Danish car magazine Bilen in a 1977 article details how Grossmann bought the frame and other components of the original Chassis 021 which had crashed badly at Le Mans in 1970 for 20,000 DM, rebuilt it and then modified it (examples: turn signals, hand brake, Safety glass windows and some modifications to the Exhaust system) to satisfy German safety inspectors leading to the registration. Grossmann's car is not officially Chassis 021 because other parts from the 1970 wreck at Le Mans were mated to spare frame components and retained the Chassis 021 designation.
Recently, high end replicas that use the flat-6 from the 911 have become available. One is built in Australia by Kraftwerkz,[8][9] another in the US by Race-Car Replicas.[10]
In addition, a grass roots "replica," the Laser 917, [11]. which is essentially a rebodied VW Beetle, was featured in the film Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo.
The Gulf Oil liveried 917 Kurzhecks are also prominently featured in the Steve McQueen film Le Mans competing against Ferrari's 512 Coda Lunga.
In 1970,Hot Wheels released a Porsche 917 with some different designs.
