2012 Camaro ZL1 As Fast As Porsche or Lamborghini? Afraid So.
All of the naysayers out there that think American cars are junk, think
again. This stock Camaro ZL1 turned times at the
Nordschleife last week that were right there with Porsche, Lamborghini and
Ferrari, all for 60,000 USD. Even Jeremy Clarkson has a Corvette ZR1, after
he laughed at...then drove it.
Camaro ZL1 - Inside Performance Traction Management
The new Chevy Camaro
ZL1 has one of the most sophisticated computerized traction management
systems ever fitted to a production car to help get all 580 horsepower to the pavement.
ZL1 Performance Manager Tony Roma explains how each PTM mode works, and
takes us for some hot laps around Virginia International Raceway.

2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with 580 horsepower
The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1's supercharged 6.2L
engine is SAE-rated at 580 horsepower (432 kW) and 556
lb.-ft. of torque (754 Nm) -- making it the most-powerful production Camaro ever.
The ZL1's outstanding power is complemented by advanced powertrain and
chassis technologies, including exclusive Performance Traction Management
and third-generation Magnetic Ride Control.
"The Camaro ZL1
delivers supercar performance and technology in the sports-car segment,"
said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. "For sheer
power, the ZL1 delivers more horsepower than a Ferrari
458, more torque than an Aston Martin DB9 V12, and a better power-to-weight
ratio than a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS.
2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with Launch Control
While attending a press preview of the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at Virginia
International Raceway, Vehix's Contributing Editor, Thom Blackett, grabbed
this short clip demonstrating the car's launch control feature.
The idea is to maximize off-the-line grip, something that can go up in
smoke with a 580-horsepower muscle car. To
activate the system, tap the traction control button (located forward of
the gear shift) twice. At that point, plant the throttle and the engine rpm
will be limited to about 4,000 (varies slightly depending on weather
conditions). Drop the clutch, and you're off.
Even under wet conditions, the 580-hp ZL1 was able to hook up and get
moving, rather than sit and spin the rear rubber. And, thanks to a driver
who had a little trouble activating the launch control system, we get to
hear the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 sing at nearly full throttle.
2010 Corvette ZR1 launch control 0-120mph
My new 2010 Corvette getting broken in right with 500 miles testing out
launch control. I had to control a little bit of side to side movement
through 1st gear, but the launch control did a great job of managing
traction. I did lift on the 1-2 shift out of habit, but I did the no lift
shifting on the 2-3 shift. Quite a ride.
2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Testing
Video of the new Camaro
Z28 testing at Nurburgring in Germany. This is NOT the final look for the
Z28. Everyone thinks these paint schemes are the final paint job. Its only
to distort its looks to viewers.
Notice the Lexus LFA at 1:51 & the new Cadillac CTS-V coupe at 3:01.. Just
