Porsche 997 Turbo S Modifications Stock to Race
Coming across this car 10 months ago was simply by chance. Having sold our Project 997.1 turbo, I had no idea what to do while we all anticipated the arrival of the 991. The 3.8L turbo engine with 7spd PDK transmission seemed a little boring. But it was definitely not the case. As we added a Softronic ECU Flash and Agency Power Sleeper Pipes, we took the power from 550 all wheel horsepower and 555 ft/lbs of torque. On 91 octane that translated into well over 650 crank horsepower! With some other styling bits from Agency Power, KW, NR Auto, what now?
Track days you can only do so much. Straight line racing is, well, not proving much but power, so we decided to travel 4500 miles away to enter in a real deal road rally. The Targa Newfoundland is a 6 day staged and timed road rally that has you racing through closed roads. With some of the worst roads and beautiful scenery, it was a full test for the cars handling, driveability, longevity, and performance. After 2500 miles of driving, we finished and never had to turn one wrench. With jumps, hard braking, hairpin turns, and transit stages, our Porsche turbo S did it all.

Porsche 911 GT3 vs Porsche 911 Turbo. Snow Ice Road Trip.
Ultimate road trip. Inspired by Top Gear to find the Greatest Driving Road in the World we emabarked on the South Island of New Zealand. Cars were caught in a a winter blizzard during part of the trip.
Cars used were a Porsche 996 GT3 mk1 and a Porsche 996 turbo.

One of the longest running sports cars in existence, the latest Porsche 911- code-named the 991, will go on sale in the UK from December 2011. Featuring a lower roof, more bulbous headlights and sharper tail-lights the front track is also wider, improving handling. The engines have received several tweaks too. The standard Carrera's 3.6-litre flat six cylinder engine is replaced by a smaller 3.4 that is more efficient but produces more power, at 345bhp. The 3.8-litre found in the Carrera S now produces 394bhp. Performance when fitted with the PDK twin-clutch gearbox and optional Sport Chrono Pack is very impressive. The standard Carrera sprints from 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds whilst the Carrera S can nail the benchmark in just 4.1 seconds. The interior has received a major makeover that is inspired by the Panamera, but with fewer switches. Most owners will opt for the PDK gearbox but Porsche also offer a seven-speed manual option - the first of it's kind in a production car.

Fabspeed takes a spin in the Porsche 997.2 Carrera S with the Maxflo Valvetronic Exhaust installed. The Valvetronic Exhaust system is similar to the PSE muffler, except with more power and sound! This will mate to the stock resonator, of for more sound/power, the Fabspeed X-Pipe bypass.

2012 Porsche Boxster Test Drive & Sports Car Video Review

The Boxster has an almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution thanks in part to its mid-engine rear wheel drive design. The base model Boxster starts at $48,100 with the top of the line Black Edition costing $65,200.
There are 2 different engine options on the 2012 Porsche Boxster. The first engine is a 2.9 liter flat-6 offered on the base model. This engine produces 255 horsepower and 214 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy is 19 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway. The second engine is found on the more expensive trims levels. This 3.4 liter flat-6 produces 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy for this larger engine is 19 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway. There are 2 transmission choices: a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed PDK twin-clutch automatic transmission that can shift in milliseconds. While it may seem like the Boxster has less horsepower than other sports cars, remember that it is one of the lightest cars on the road weighing less than 3000 lbs.
The 2012 Boxster holds the classic character lines reminiscent of older generations but with current proportions. This second generation Boxster is dubbed the 987 and has been on the market since 2005. In 2009 the sports car got a facelift featuring a larger engine and direct fuel injection. Porsche engineers took great care to make sure the convertible roof was quite at speed. In fact the convertible soft top is a breeze to open and close and takes a mere 12 seconds to put down.
The convertible sports car segment is loaded with a bunch of great cars like the Audi TT, Mercedes-Benz SLK, and the BMW Z4. But all these cars are considerably heavier than the Porsche Boxster. If you are looking for a no nonsense roadster that combines perfect weight distribution and wonderful driving dynamics into a good looking package than the 2012 Porsche Boxster is the perfect choice.
