Pommy Steve Read in the 4th round of Top Fuel qualifying at the 2008 Fuchs Australian Nationals, WSID, Australia. His run appeared to be a stout one, but no time was recorded. Unfortunately his throttle jammed open after the finish line with terrible consequences. HE crashed into the sand trap and safety net.
Doug Foley Top Fuel Crash 2006
Foley's car went into a wheelstand, then lost traction when he pedaled it and the front came down. The car then turned sideways, crossing the centerline at the 330-foot marker. He managed to get the car pointed down the track, but the rear slammed into the left wall hard, breaking the chassis just ahead of the driver's foot box. Both pieces slid back across the track together and there was a big fireball when the fuel tank hit the wall. The nose of the car came to rest on the centerline, near the finish line, while the heavier engine and driver capsule slid along the wall, coming to a stop about 300 feet past the finish line.

Martin Stamatis 4.577 329.10 mph (529.63 kmh) drag race
Western Australian Martin Stamatis became the fastest Australian drag racer at the recent Sydney Summernationals on Saturday February 16 when he blasted his Fastlane Software Jim Read Racing top fuel dragster to a top speed of 329.10 mph (529.63 kmh) down the WSID quarter mile.
The fastest speed recorded by an Australian on Aussie soil was previously held by his team mate, Phil Read who ran 329.02 mph (529.51 kmh) at the 2006 Boxing Day International Top Fuel Challenge.
Although the margin may be minimal to some, for Stamatis the speed was a great personal achievement for him and his hard working team, and the 4.577 second ET from the run is also now only just behind Phil Read's personal best of time 4.571 seconds, leaving the entire Read team really pumped.
Stamatis and his team then went on to win the meeting, and are now looking forward to the next top fuel round due to be held in Sydney on May 2 and 3.
Top Fuel Dragster Helmet Cam - Phil Read
Phil Read Elimination round 1 at Perth Motorplex, January 29th 2011. Helmet cam view of Phil's pass. $800 worth of Nitro Methane gone in 2 minutes. Supercharger blows off and yet another fireball in the second half of the pass. Car still ran 4.90, but had more speed at half track than at the finish. Next pass was more steady and much faster - 311mph (501kph) in a virtual dead heat with Phil Lamattina. 4.806 vs 4.808. TOP FUEL is something you HAVE to experience first-hand at some stage in your life, even if just once. And if you like this clip, you'll love this one:
1978 NHRA Sportsnationals
The late, great, Modified eliminator. If you've never witnessed Modified Production and Gas-class cars in action, you really missed drag racing's most exciting era!
Sure, drag cars are making more horsepower and torque than ever, with resulting quicker and faster ET's and MPH, but the sounds of these high rpm, manual shift race cars--sans any electronic rev limiters--is no longer around. Ditto for the mean sounding/cool looking dry hops, as the cars approach the start line (after the burnout) is unfortunately, a thing of the past.

Toyota on Wednesday announced that it will deal with the problem of potential accelerator pedal entrapment involving eight of its vehicle models, including the 2004-'09 Toyota Prius, by taking a number of steps. It will reconfigure the accelerator pedal and, in some cases, the shape of the floor surface under the pedal. It also will install a brake override system on five models as an "extra measure of confidence" and then incorporate the system into "new production of most models by the end of 2010," it said in a statement. The issue affects 3.8 million vehicles....

I was one of the lucky few who got one of the best filming and none crowded spots at the strip. I filmed it in the suites. It was very crazy and I cant wait till they do it again next year! The ground shook like crazy and it was very loud. All cars made it down the track fairly fast. Thanks Burton for such a spectacular expedition race.
Funny Top Fuel Warmup... LOL

How to stop your vehicle if accelerator sticks
Last month, Toyota issued a massive recall of nearly 4 million Toyota and Lexis vehicles. The recall is intended to fix a very dangerous defect which can lead to Unintended Acceleration of the vehicle. Initially thought to be an issue with floor mats, the real problem involves the cars electronic throttle system. The recall was prompted by a high speed crash in August in California of a Lexus barreling out of control. As the vehicle hit speeds exceeding 120 mph, family members made a frantic 911 call and said the accelerator was stuck and they couldn't stop the vehicle.
