Only about 15% of the energy from the fuel you put in your tank gets used to move your car down the road or run useful accessories, such as air conditioning. The rest of the energy is lost to engine and driveline inefficiencies and idling. Therefore, the potential to improve fuel efficiency with advanced technologies is enormous. With an Electric Car it costs just $1.00 per 100kms with MUCH more performance than with petrol at $20.00 per 100kms.
It takes 7.5 kWh of electricity to refine one gallon of gasoline. That same 7.5 kWh can power a Nissan Leaf for 30 miles.

Fast Electric Car, Portuguese Prototype

Já imaginou conduzir um carro que só gasta 1 euro aos 100 quilómetros? Não é utopia porque este carro já existe, move-se a energia eléctrica, e está a ser desenvolvido pelo empresário João Oliveira do Entroncamento, em parceria com o ISEL Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa, com a Autosil - fabricante Português de baterias eléctricas - e com uma empresa estrangeira da área dos motores eléctricos de tracção . Este carro, que ainda é um protótipo, é alimentado por baterias eléctricas, não tem qualquer tipo emissões poluentes locais e pode ter uma autonomia até 200 quilómetros com baterias de lítio, prevendo-se que possa chegar, num futuro próximo, até um máximo de 500km, o que, segundo João Oliveira, será suficiente para a sua utilização em pequenos percursos de lazer ou em circuitos pendulares casa-trabalho-casa.
