Fiat Abarth 1000 Berlina Corsa
Top Marques episode on Fiat. This particular video brings a few minutes of
delight for those who have special appreciation of Fiats with Abarth badge.
It's a 1000 BC, Abarth's conversion of 600 model, with up to 75 BHP and top
speed reaching 185 km/h!
Fiat Abarth 750S Allemano Spyder 1959
One of Carlo Abarth's most successful series of GT cars was based on the
FIAT 600 - the 750 - appearing in 1956. Although the 750 was production
based the customer had such freedom of choice, including engine
specification, that it is rare to find two identical cars. The 600 chassis
required little modification apart from changing spring rates and up-rating
the front brakes to twin-leading-shoe operation, and coped remarkably well
with the Abarth's greatly increased performance. The latter was achieved by
boring and stroking the 600's 633cc four-cylinder engine to 747cc and
modifying or replacing just about every other component, the result being
an increase in maximum power from 23bhp at 4,000rpm to 44bhp at 6,000 revs.
Tested by The Autocar magazine in 1958, the Abarth 750 GT scorched through
the standing quarter-mile in 20 seconds on its way to maximum speed of
95mph, outstanding figures for such a small-engined car. Serafino
Allemano's Carrozzeria was founded in Turin in 1928, just as the Italian
car industry was flourishing. At first he channeled his resources into
repairing the multitude of home grown machinery as Alfa, Fiat and Lanica
marques grew rapidly, but by the mid-1930s he had realized that his
energies where better directed towards design. After the war, Serafino's
nephew joined the firm and it grew to become synonymous with avante garde
styling of the 'jet age'. Perhaps most associated with the Maserati marque
as they produced a number of bodies on A6Gs and 5000GTs, this was by no
means their mainstay, and the exquisite little aluminum bodied 750 Abarth
offered here is evidence of pure Allemano in its detailed and modern
design. This particular car had had an extensive restoration back in the
90's. It Dark Blue coachwork is fresh & has been done in the last few
months. It's Black interior is immaculate in all respects. The Dark Blue
soft top is in perfect shape although it has some patina & a few areas
that have been soiled a bit...haven't cleaned the car so these may come
out. The front trunk & rear engine bay appear clean but have signs of use &
need only some elbow greese & an nice afternoon to get to look far better.
She starts right up...that bad boy OHV 747 cc/43 HP 4 cylinder motor sounds
so perfect & she runs like a scared rabbit. These 750 Allemano Spyders are
far & few between w/literally only a handful ever produced. Very few ever
get to the market as compared to it's older brother, the Zagato bodied
Coupes. There have been several Z Coupe's come to market & have brought
huge money, but having that top-down option always has it's benifits. She
appears to be in very original condition including all Fiat & Abarth logos
& every piece of trim inside & out. She also sports a set of original Campy
wheels that were not standard equipment, but make the package oh-so
beautiful & complete. This is a car that has more future investment
potential than most any car on the market currently today except for a few
unaffordable Ferrari's. Let us know if you like this pretty little 750
