Pontiac GTO vs Cadillac CTS-V Drag Racing Racelegal.com 8-24-2012
Friday night drag racing at raclegal.com at qualcomm on the 1/8 mile
pontiac GTO vs Cadillac CTS.
GM revealed the all-new 2008 CTS at the North American International Auto
Show in January 2007. The base model featured a 3.0 L variable valve timing
V6 with 270 hp (201 kW) and 252 lb·ft (342 N·m) of torque. A second
engine, a new 3.6 L direct-injection V6 VVT engine with 318 hp (237 kW) and
274 foot-pounds force (371 N·m) of torque was also offered. The new car
came with a six-speed manual transmission as standard equipment, with GM's
six-speed Hydra-matic 6L50 automatic transmission available as an option on
all variants. On-demand all-wheel drive was offered with both engines when
equipped with an automatic transmission. Suspension, braking, and
steering improvements from the previous generation CTS-V were designed into
the new standard CTS.
The second generation was wider and longer than the original, measuring
191.6 inches (4866 mm) long, 72.5 inches (1841 mm) wide and 58 inches (1472
mm) in height. Wheelbase remained unchanged at 113.4 inches (2880 mm), but
with a wider front/rear track of 61.8 / 62.0 inches (1575 / 1585 mm),
donated by the larger STS. Other changes included a revamped exterior, with
a new, larger grille, slimmer headlights and taillights, side air extractor
vents located forward of the front doors, and new nine-spoke 18-inch
wheels, surrounding larger high-performance brake calipers and rotors.
Available features on the second-gen CTS included a Bose 5.1 surround sound
system, GM's Stabilitrak ESC system, a tire pressure monitoring system, a
navigation system with real-time traffic and weather data, an integrated 40
GB hard drive for music storage, swiveling headlights, and remote starting.
In 2008, the CTS was selected as the car that would re-launch the Cadillac
brand in Australia and New Zealand.
During the 2010 model year, the GM badges were dropped, although early 2010
models still had GM badges.
For 2006, two additional colors were added to the line up, Spice Red
Metallic and Brazen Orange Metallic, while Midnight Blue Metallic and
Yellow Jacket were dropped. Changes for 2006 included revised blacked-out
tail lamps, illuminated steering wheel radio controls, faster moving power seat motors, and an
interior power door lock switch. The climate control button for the A/C
also had the word "Defog" added to it for the 2006 model year. Along with
the 2005 model, the 2006 GTO was equipped with the 400 hp (300 kW), 6.0 L
On February 21, 2006, Buick-Pontiac-GMC General Manager John Larson
announced to dealers that GM would halt imports of the GTO in September,
making 2006 the last model year for the new GTO. He stated the main reason
for the cease in production was the GTO's inability to meet new airbag
deployment standards that were going into effect in 2007. This fate
should have come as no surprise since this generation GTO was only intended
as a limited production run for those 3 years from the beginning of the
The final production numbers of the 2006 Pontiac GTO are 13,948 cars, an
increase from 11,069 from the previous model year.
The last Pontiac GTO, which was also the very last Monaro-based coupe
produced, came off the assembly line in Australia on June 14, 2006.
Total production for all three years was 40,808 vehicles.
Despite the lower than anticipated sales numbers and an unenthusiastic
response by the American public, the new-age GTO has become a "sought after
cult-car," with many loyal owners. Even though it was not a sales success,
it was a vital lesson to GM that its regional divisions could not only work
together, but that overseas divisions could engineer outstanding

With the smaller ATS now in the lineup, the 2014 Cadillac CTS is finally
free to move up-market in size, power, and prestige. The all-new
third-generation CTS showcases a lot of firsts for the Cadillac brand. The
first twin-turbo engine, 8-speed
transmission, and a plethora of luxury and technology makes this one of the
best mid-size luxury sedans money can buy. If you want the best handling
vehicle in the segment, look no further, your sport sedan has arrived.
2016 Cadillac CTS V 640 HP Top Speed of 200 mph
2016 Cadillac CTS-V
Cadillac introduced the 2016 CTS-V, the most powerful product in the
brand's 112-year history and the newest entry in the elite class of the
world's highest-performing luxury cars.
Launching in late summer with 640 horsepower (477 kW), 630
lb-ft of torque (855 Nm) and a top speed of 200 mph, the new CTS-V reaches
higher than its predecessors, leading Cadillac's product-driven expansion
and elevation. It is the third generation of the acclaimed luxury sports
sedan that launched the elite V-Series a decade ago - and redefined
Cadillac for a new generation of enthusiasts. http://autoblackzone.com/
"V-Series represents the very best of the Cadillac brand - the pinnacle of
our design and technical capabilities," said Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac
president. "The new CTS-V is the most compelling example of Cadillac's
product substance and brand trajectory. The new CTS-V soars into the
stratosphere of the most exhilarating luxury cars."
Comprehensive updates make the new CTS-V essentially two cars in one: a
luxury sedan with sophisticated road manners and a track-capable sports car
straight from the factory. It also introduces a new supercharged 6.2L V-8
engine backed by Cadillac's paddle-shift eight-speed automatic
transmission, featuring launch control and Performance Algorithm Shifting.
With more horsepower and torque than
the Mercedes-Benz 5.5L biturbo V-8 and
the BMW M-series 4.4L TwinPower (twin-turbo) V-8, the new CTS-V is capable of 0-60
performance in 3.7 seconds.
Track-honed design, chassis and suspension elements complement the
supercharged powertrain and elevate CTS-V's capability, performance and
driver control to new thresholds, while enabling track driving without
modifications or special procedures. Key performance technologies include:
Standard carbon fiber hood and available carbon fiber vent, front splitter,
rear spoiler and rear diffuser for greater aerodynamic performance
Brembo high-performance brake system developed to provide durability,
consistency and the capability for track-day performance straight from the
Third-generation Magnetic Ride Control delivering 40-percent faster damping response
Integrated chassis controls that provide balanced performance for touring
and the track, including competition-spec Performance Traction Management
Structural stiffness increased by 25 percent for improved ride and superior
Driver-selectable modes electronically calibrate performance variables for
touring, sport and track driving conditions
Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires with tri-compound technology offering
excellent grip with extended wear
An interior with performance-oriented, sueded microfiber accents and
matte-finish carbon fiber trim and available RECARO high-performance seats
for spirited driving
Advanced safety and parking technologies, including a front curb-view
camera system that provides a visual cue of curbs to protect the front
splitter; automatic parking assist to find and steer into parallel or
perpendicular parking spots; side blind zone alert, forward collision
alert, lane keep assist and rear cross traffic alert.+
More powerful supercharged V-8 engine
The power behind the new CTS-V's capability is an all-new, more powerful
6.2L supercharged V-8 engine that makes more power more efficiently than
the previous Cadillac supercharged engine. It employs a more-efficient,
more-compact 1.7L Supercharger and
matches it with direct injection and Active Fuel Management (cylinder
The Supercharger's rotors are smaller in
diameter than the previous supercharged engine, allowing higher maximum rpm
that enables power-enhancing Boost
to be generated earlier in the rpm band. That Boost is achieved more efficiently via a more
direct discharge port that creates less turbulence, reducing heat and
speeding airflow into the engine.
The Cadillac supercharged engine also has several unique features designed
to support its high output and the greater cylinder pressures created by
forced induction, including Rotocast A356T6 aluminum cylinder heads that
are stronger and handle heat better than conventional aluminum heads, and
lightweight titanium intake valves.
The CTS-V's complementing eight-speed automatic is tuned for world-class
shift-response times. Smaller steps between gears keep the engine within
the sweet spot of the rpm band, making the most of the output of the
supercharged engine for exhilarating performance and greater efficiency.
The new 8L90 transmission offers full manual control via steering wheel
paddles, and Performance Algorithm Shifting to deliver shift performance
that rivals the dual-clutch/semi-automatic transmissions found in many
luxury performance sedans - but with the smoothness and refinement that
come with a conventional automatic fitted with a torque converter.
