We originally built this car with Frank Urbinati back in 1996.It debuted at
the GS Nationals where it won the GS Pro Street class races. It was also
the 1st GS Pro Street class car to break into the 9's at the time.Thanks to
Frank this project came to life. Fast forward to 2010 and the car has been
taken over by Bob Ortolani,the car still looks great and Bob decided to
bring it up another level. We were happy to have the car come back to our
shop and to have the opportunity to work with Bob and put together the new
powerplant. The video shows the results of our 1st day out to tune the
engine. The 1st two passes were shakedowns to check fuel/oil pressures and
get a feel for the new combo. By the 3rd run we had posted a 9.62 @ 138
hitting the 7100rpm rev limiter chip! The 4th run was a 9.52 @ 140. On the
5th run it went 9.51 @ 140.65! After a good cool down and a timing
adjustment we were ready to try for a 9.40 run, launching right off idle
the car gave us a nice big unexpected wheelie! The wheelie sure lookes cool
but we know we can go quicker with a little more suspension work to
straighten out the launch and try to keep the front down. We're sure it'll
go into the 9.40's yet and maybe even 30's after everything is worked out.

When GM lifted their ban of engines larger than 400 cubic inches in
intermediate cars, the Buick camp responded with a legendary piece of
muscle car history. The GS was the go-to for anyone who put equal emphasis
on pure comfort and brute power. This Sloan-documented 1970 GS 455 is the
beneficiary of an extensive frame-off restoration which has already claimed
some significant awards. Accolades include a Concours Gold First Senior
award at the 2012 Buick Club of America Nationals.
While Buick's GSX made its presence loud and clear with two strong color
options, the GS455 went about things in a slightly more sophisticated way.
This GS 455 wears a refreshing mix of fresh Burgundy Mist and Glacier White
paint for a refined appearance. Only the functional hood scoops hint at the
cars performance capabilities. All brightwork has been polished or
replaced, including the showroom fresh bumpers which were rechromed by

White interior from Legendary Auto Interiors offers new carpet, bucket
seats, door panels, and a taut new headliner. Presentation is great thanks
to details like freshly rechromed center console trim and a new steering
wheel. Upgrades include a full Custom Autosound stereo system with direct
The stock Buick 455 was a strong engine, offering a factory rated 360 horsepower and 510
lb. /ft. of torque but this GS takes things to the next level. Lift the
hood and a deceptively stock-appearing bay hosts a fully rebuilt 470ci
Buick motor full of high-quality parts. Built by Tri-Shield Performance,
the block hosts pieces like Diamond forged pistons, Eagle H-beam rods, and
a TA cam. At the top, a ported stock intake works alongside ported and
polished aluminum SE Stage 1 heads to help make a stout 507 horsepower.
Behind that powerhouse, TH400 automatic transmission rebuilt by TSP spins
power back to a 12-bolt rear with versatile 3.31 gears. At either side,
headers connect to a 3-inch dual Exhaust system complete with an X-pipe and
Flowmaster 50 series mufflers. To the rear, a new Quantum fuel tank and
RobbMc fuel pump keep the big Buick properly fed.
During restoration, the frame was sand blasted and painted with an
industrial urethane before being joined by all new suspension components.
Power front disc brakes and rear drums provide plenty of stopping power
while a fully rebuilt power steering system ensures confidence through the
corners. The chassis meets the road through new Wheel Vintiques Buick Rally
wheels wrapped in Goodyear Polylgas tires.
Offering a near-perfect blend of show and go, this award-winning 1970 GS
455 is a great reminder of Buick's performance heritage and a resounding
"Yes" to the old slogan, "Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick?"

In stock form, the 1955 Buick Special could best be described as a "nice"
car. It's not drop dead gorgeous like a 1959 Impala, nor does it have the
panache of say a 1956 Chrysler 300. You see the '55 Buick Special was a
working mans car. It had room enough for the whole family, a decent
power-plant thanks to its 264 cubic inch V8, and style that was, well...
above average. Harry Fisher or "Uncle Harry" as most people know him, saw
the old Buick a bit differently though. He knew that with a few little
touches (like a 502 cubic inch big-block, modern suspension, and a new set
of wheels) that this old Buick had the potential to become one of the
baddest hot-rods around.
