Truck Fest 2013: Smokey Big Rigs Burnouts & Drag Racing Revealed
( http://www.TFLtruck.com ) When you think of a Big Rig Semi...you probably
don't immediately think of drag racing...or do you? This weekend at
Bandimere Speedway just outside of Denver, Colorado hundreds of Big Rig
Semi trucks lined up on the drag strip to see which one is the kind of the
mile high drag strip and which one is the fastest mile high pickup
dragster. Can a big rig run a sub 20 second quarter mile? You bet. Can a
big rig run a sub 15 mile....no problem. Can a Big Rig run a sub 10 second
time? You'll have to watch the video to find out. In another fun and
informative TFLtruck video we see what happens when the Big Rig Semi Trucks
line up behind the Christmas Tree.

Looking for a hot tri-five that's every bit as cool and twice as classy as
a ground-up custom? This killer Bel Air is an amazing car at an incredible
Judging by a quick glance at its profile, this Bel Air was an extremely
solid piece when its high quality frame-off restoration began. But
nevertheless its body was stripped to bare metal and virtually perfected in
a thorough rebuild that even included a restored undercarriage and a custom
interior. In late 2010, the car's smooth fuselage was covered in a thick
coat of classy green paint and buffed to a wet-look shine. And today, it
sits as one fantastic shoebox Chevy that creates a one car parade wherever
Lift the car's smooth hood and you'll find a proven 350 cubic inch GM
Performance Parts crate motor which looks good and, with 290 horsepower and 326 lb./ft.
of torque, runs great! Straight from the factory this fully-sorted package
combines a cast nodular crank with powdered metal connecting rods and cast
aluminum pistons to create razor-sharp throttle response and a
Bonneville-flat torque band. The hot engine's air is supplied by a
pinstriped, Cadillac-style cleaner which seals around a big Edelbrock 650
carburetor that's fed by fresh stainless fuel lines. A perfect mixture of
elements is sourced through a high performance Edelbrock aluminum intake
and cast iron heads which are capped by black, "CHEVROLET" branded valve
covers. Fires are ignited by fresh Jegs 8.0 POW'R WIRES which are connected
to a modern HEI distributor. Heat is suppressed by a heavy duty Be Cool
cross-flow radiator that's equipped with a polished cap and a welded and
polished overflow tank. Spent gases are jettisoned through a slick pair of
Sanderson block hugger headers. And the motor keeps turning thanks to a
full serpentine system which spins a chrome alternator and a chrome AC
compressor between a full set of polished pulleys and a full set of
At that back of the torque rich small block you'll find a stalwart turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed which twists thrust
to a traditional GM rear end that feels smooth and contemporary. At the
front of the chassis the car's traditional 'knee-action' suspension, which
has been fitted with shorter coil springs and a thick sway bar, swaps a
traditional manual rack for power steering and a fresh Classic Performance
Products 605 gearbox. At the back of the chassis, familiar leaf springs
combine with lowering blocks, a second sway bar and two inch drop spindles
to ensure enough strength and reliability to counter all the small block's
chutzpah. At the corners of the chassis, fresh stainless lines shuttle
fluid from a familiar power brake Booster to big rotors and modern calipers. The
350 beats a killer soundtrack through a 2.5 inch true dual Exhaust system which features an H-pipe
crossover and great sounding Flowmaster dual chamber mufflers. And power
flows to the pavement through a sweet set of 16 inch steelies which spin
215/70 front and 235/70 American Classic whitewalls around smooth hub caps
and chrome trim rings.
One of this Chevy's most noteworthy features is its great looking leather
interior which was stitched to match its light green body at Armando's
Custom Upholstery in San Jacinto, California. Completely unique, from its
supportive leather seats and sculpted door panels to its fresh carpets and
color-keyed headliner, this supple cockpit looks almost as good as it
feels. At the front of the car a chrome-trimmed dash holds attractive
silver faced gauges, which are complete with a metallic green bowtie, above
a three pack of Auto Gauge accessory gauges and controls for the modern
heat and air conditioning system. At the sides of the car, traditional
chrome handles ride between billet lock knobs, green door frames and
leather-wrapped armrests. And in front of the driver, a painted tilt
steering column spins a traditional Bel Air steering wheel around a
polished shifter and a full set of billet stalks.
With a high quality restoration that's beyond reproach and a custom color
combination that creates a riot at shows, THIS is the kind of build you
simply can't touch for our asking price. Call, click or visit

1957 Chevrolet Commercial "Champs of the ALCAN Run" 1956 General Motors; 1957 Chevy Truck
more at http://auto-parts.quickfound.net
'CHEVROLET TRUCKS - Chevrolet Trucks are Champs of the Alcan Run, "a road
that lies under Northern skies, toward the land of the midnight sun. It
crosses the crest of the great Northwest, and it's known as the Alcan run".
This military type march, presents the "trucks of the task force fleet" and
shows them driving on the rough mountainous roads.'
Public domain film from the Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove
uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise
The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise
reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound,
though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original).
The Alaska Highway (also known as the Alaskan Highway, Alaska-Canadian
Highway, or ALCAN Highway) was constructed during World War II for the
purpose of connecting the contiguous United States to Alaska through
Canada. It begins at the junction with several Canadian highways in Dawson
Creek, British Columbia, and runs to Delta Junction, Alaska, via
Whitehorse, Yukon. Completed in 1942 at a length of approximately 2,700
kilometres (1,700 mi), as of 2012 it is 2,232 km (1,387 mi) long. The
difference in distance is due to constant reconstruction of the highway,
which has rerouted and straightened out numerous sections. The highway was
opened to the public in 1948. Legendary over many decades for being a
rough, challenging drive, the highway is now paved over its entire length.
An informal system of historic mileposts developed over the years to denote
major stopping points; Delta Junction, at the end of the highway, makes
reference to its location at "Historic Milepost 1422." It is at this point
that the Alaska Highway meets the Richardson Highway, which continues 155
km (96 mi) to the city of Fairbanks. This is often regarded, though
unofficially, as the northern portion of the Alaska Highway, with Fairbanks
at Historic Milepost 1520. Mileposts on this stretch of highway are
measured from Valdez, rather than the Alaska Highway. The Alaska Highway is
popularly (but unofficially) considered part of the Pan-American Highway,
which extends south (despite its discontinuity in Panama) to Argentina...
Proposals for a highway to Alaska originated in the 1920s. Thomas
MacDonald, director of the U.S. Bureau of Public Roads, dreamed of an
international highway spanning the United States and Canada. In order to
promote the highway, Slim Williams originally travelled the proposed route
by dog sled. Since much of the route would pass through Canada, support
from the Canadian government was crucial. However, the Canadian government
perceived no value in putting up the required funds to build the road,
since the only part of Canada that would benefit was not more than a few
thousand people in the Yukon.
However, some route consideration was given. The preferred route would pass
through the Rocky Mountain Trench from Prince George, British Columbia to
Dawson City before turning west to Fairbanks, Alaska.
The attack on Pearl Harbor and beginning of the Pacific Theatre in World
War II, coupled with Japanese threats to the west coast of North America
and the Aleutian Islands, changed the priorities for both nations. On
February 6, 1942 the construction of the Alaska Highway was approved by the
United States Army and the project received the authorization from the U.S.
Congress and President Franklin D. Roosevelt to proceed five days later.
Canada agreed to allow construction as long as the United States bore the
full cost, and that the road and other facilities in Canada be turned over
to Canadian authority after the war ended.
The official start of construction took place on March 8, 1942...
