Join us on the ice! The new Audi S1 is one of those cars where you first ask yourself: How on earth would you need 231 horse power in such a small car? The name and the concept of such power in a smaller car is inspired by the original S1 from the Rallye Championship of the 1980ties. However, now the S1 comes for every day driving on the street - but it is really not ordinary. What is especially important here on the ice is to turn off the electronic stability programme. You can do this in 2 steps - and here we need the second step, of course. 5,8 sec is the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h, we got a turbo backed 2 litre engine maximizing it to 370 Nm of torque. To get the power to the ground, we got the quattro all wheel drive as well as a transverse differential lock - this is done electronically. The interior is usually dominated by black, but there is the quattro interior pack to colour it up. Same counts for the exterior: To stress the performance domination, there is the quattro exterior pack. Audi says, the consumption is about 7 litres on 100 kilometres. That will never be true, rather calculate with 9 litres. Our friends in the USA wont have the chance to buy this little fellow, as the Audi range starts with the A3. In Germany it will start at 30.000 Euro, the price for the UK is not fixed yet. The starting price is north of $105k but you get a whole ton of performance. Under the hood lives a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V-8 monster that makes 560 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. of torque. The Audi RS 7 can run from 0-60 MPH in 3.7 seconds. Fuel economy is actually very good at 16 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway thanks to the cylinder deactivation system. With the RS 7 you also get a wonderfully load and entertaining Exhaust. The RS 7 gets special embroidered seats, badging, and unique interior trims. The gauges are clear and easy to read and the pop-up navigation screen is great. The rear passengers enjoy plenty of legroom but not as much headroom since the hatchback design of the RS 7 cuts down that space. That is one of the few negatives on this Sportback design. The benefit though is an enlarged trunk area that has more cubic feet of space. The driving experience is incredible. The car has the adaptive air suspension which combines the best of both worlds: a comfortable ride coupled with excellent body control. Also the Torque Vectoring Rear Diff is on hand to keep you out of trouble. Bottom line: the Audi RS 7 delivers just what it promises!
