Designing the new Honda Accord: style, sportiness and a premium feel
Video transcript: The style of the car really appeals to me. It is more distinctive, new and premium. The biggest positive change of the new car vs. the current car is the sportiness and the style of the vehicle. The lines are fantastic. The new car is an evolution of the current car until you see them side-by-side and you actually see that the new one is far more muscular. It's more distinctive. It's got a greater presence than the outgoing car. The extra width of the car has really worked very well. I just love the wheel arches - the bit that actually creases over the metal. That looks really nice to me. It feels really premium. 17 inch alloy wheels - for the first time, it's got more of a cockpit feel to it. Half-leather seats. The fascia, dashboard, I think is genuinely premium. It appeals to me personally. The instrumentation feels good. One of the objectives of designing the new car was to bring those levels of refinement and quality that you would normally expect to see in the class above, rather than in the D segment. And I think we've absolutely achieved that within the Accord. And I think that's particularly seen within the Tourer. It's such a close match to the Tourer concept that we showed last year in Frankfurt, and I guess people didn't expect that we would do that. Bright red with the privacy glass - it just looked outstanding. If they have a car that is worth more than the money that they paid for it, it gives me great satisfaction. " Design gives us a huge opportunity to appeal to image-conscious user-choosers who are perhaps a little more status-conscious. When I talk about sporty styling, I'm not saying that we're actually creating an out-and-out performance car. We're not looking to compete with the BMW M3 or the Audi RS4. What we're looking to do is we're looking to provide what the consumer is demanding which is a car that has an involving drive certainly, but looks sporty and fantastic as well. Various Honda's models will be presented at 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The revised Honda Jazz marks the return of a CVT automatic transmission to the endlessly flexible B-segment hatchback. The Jazz Hybrid is also shown in full production specification, in line with Honda's commitment to petrol-electric hybrid technology. The revised Honda Accord sedan and Tourer models also make their debut at the show with a host of changes with the styling, emissions, ride and handling. The Geneva Motor Show also marks the debut of Honda EV Concept electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid vehicle platform, showing the ultimate goal of the Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles, like the FCX Clarity. At Geneva Motor Show, the 2011 Honda Insight features a revised interior, suspension components and settings and the revised Honda CR-Z shows CO2 emissions of just 117 g/km and fuel economy of 5.0 l/100km. The CR-V equipped with the Euro NCAP award-winning Collision Mitigation Brake System, the Honda-developed autonomous emergency braking system will also be at the show.

The 2012 Honda Crosstour® approaches the crossover SUV formula from a distinctively sleek, sporty and fuel-efficient perspective while also maximizing the interior's cargo capacity, versatility and premium feel. The Crosstour's exterior design emphasizes a bold, aerodynamic look that also conceals an accommodating rear cargo area with a large, lift-over tailgate. Premium interior styling, appointments and details extend from the passenger compartment all the way through the cargo area. An under-floor storage area in the rear of the vehicle adds functionality, while reversible cargo floor panels accommodate dirty objects. The Crosstour is available in two trim levels, the Crosstour EX and EX-L, with Real Time™ 4WD also available on the EX-L model. For 2012, new features on the Crosstour EX include auto on/off headlights, a rearview camera, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® and USB audio interface. Two new colors are also available on all Crosstour models: Twilight Blue Metallic replaces Glacier Blue Metallic, and Basque Red Pearl replaces Tango Red Pearl. The Crosstour comes standard with a 3.5-liter i-VTEC V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) for power and efficiency. The engine produces 271 horsepower at 6,200 RPM and 254 lb-ft. of torque at 5,000 RPM, while achieving an EPA-rated city/highway/combined fuel economy of 18/27/21 mpg2 on 2WD models. Meanwhile the Crosstour EX-L with Real Time™ 4WD delivers an EPA-rated city/highway/combined fuel economy rating of 18/26/21 mpg. To maximize efficiency, the engine's VCM cylinder deactivation system is programmed to run on 3, 4 or 6 cylinders, based on current power requirements, and a technologically advanced 5-speed automatic transmission is standard equipment. For true utility-vehicle capability, the Crosstour provides 6.2 inches of maximum ground clearance in addition to the available Real Time™ 4WD system. Besides its new-for-2012 auto on/off headlights, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink and USB audio interface, standard features on the Crosstour EX include projector-beam headlights, fog lights, 17-inch aluminum wheels with P225/65R17 all-season tires, a moonroof, body-colored power side mirrors with defrost, chrome door handles, auto up/down driver and front passenger side windows and rear privacy glass.
