Step two in the project :
Gasket matching is a good way to improve the flow in your head (engine heads only) and to avoid the bad turbulences where they are not supposed to be : between parts.
It's the first step in your porting job that you should think about ,and do with your brain and hands.
The castings patterns are often quite "bad quality" (or i should say the consequence of the application of a mass production process ) and it's the way to start this kind of job.

I bought it when i was nineteen and have by a period of ten years stripped it totally apart and then put it together again piece by piece. At the beginning i had an idea about a modern motor and gearbox but when it all was fitted in the car i changed my mind and replaced it with an original B18 and turned the rest of the car into an original old stock look but the way i wanted it. Today it is runnable and street legal but i had made me a new list with parts and things i want to check out and replace with new ones so where and when this project will end i can't say ;)
The modern drivetrain Spec:
Engine: Volvo B230F with 405 head
Gearbox: Volvo M47
Radiator: old SAAB 900 turbo
Back to basic drivetrain Spec:
Engine: Volvo B18
Gearbox: M40
Modified: Airfilter box were brooken so i made an openair version of it

A 1970 2 door Volvo Amazon. It originally looked a little tatty around the edges but is in fact pretty solid.
I've replaced the original B20 with in a B20F engine from a latter 142, adding a M-410 gearbox (with overdrive) and webers, plus giving the brakes and suspension an overhaul along with a fresh coat of paint and lot's of other goodies. I simply wanted to make this an every day car with a little bit more power and speed.
There still a little work to be done but for now I just want to put some miles on the clock.

This was an film that I had meant to do in the fall of 2011, but ran out of time for and pushed back to spring. Jonathan Bigelow's 1966 Volvo Amazon has an interesting story that is even more fascinating to hear in full; between its construction and now, it has crossed a number of borders, first from Sweden to Norway, and then from Norway to the United States - and all in one family.

Worlds fastest Volvo B20
Jens Gustavsson, Umeå, Sweden, has an entirely homebuilt pushrod B20 turbo in his Volvo 140. It has produced 450 whp on pumpgas at 7500 rpm and 1,8 psi. 506 whp/567 Nm on racefuel at 6200 rpm and 2,2 psi. That's 595 crank hp/667 Nm, making it the worlds most powerful Volvo B20. On the strip, his best results so far are:
1/8 mile: 6,83 sec, 163 km/h.
1/4 mile: 10,61 sec, 205 km/h.
60 ft: 1,49 sec.
