Lexus IS350 Headlights LED Switchback Running Lights w/ Sequential Signals & CCFL Angel Eyes
This Lexus IS350 had boring chrome bezel headlights, with amber side
reflectors and ugly yellow day time running lights (DRLs) in the high beam
section. Custom wiring was installed which disabled the high beam bulb
from running at 4.5 volts when the engine is running, but still operates
normally when the flashers or high beams are activated.
The headlights were removed from the car, opened up, and the side reflector
was pulled out all together. The chrome bezel was painted Blue Onyx Pearl,
the same color as the car, using a 2 stage automotive paint and clear coat.
The end result changed the whole look of the car.
Additionally, 32 holes were drilled into each bezel, where 8 Nichia White
LEDs, and 8 CREE Amber LEDs are connected to a custom coded circuit board,
which itself is wired internally to the running lights and turn signals
inside the headlight. Check this gallery for installation shots:
When the Running lights are activated in the car, the initial fire up phase
of the white LEDs begins. After they have been powered on, and the signals
are activated, they will pop back on all at once after the signal is
finished. The signal itself begins a sequence of Amber LEDs firing, first
at full intensity, then at lower voltage, and finally off, which creates a
trailing effect, or "Chaser" effect as some call it.
A custom kill switch has been installed to disable the stock turn signal
bulbs for demonstration purposes when the car is parked or at a car show.
The stock bulbs provide a safer alert to other drivers when activated,
which is why they were left in place to accompany the Sequential function
of the Amber LEDs.
