2012 Hyundai Equus Test Drive & Luxury Car Review

In fact the Equus is a very nice alternative to Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes at a more affordable price. The Equus is a RWD long wheel base luxury sedan with a base price of $59,000. This is $15k-$30k less than is competition! When the Equus was first launched in this country it came with a very respectable 4.6 liter engine. But the engine certainly did not have the guts to match up to some of the competitors in the luxury car segment. For the 2012 model year the Equus gets an updated GDI 5.0 liter V-8 engine produces huge numbers at 429 horsepower and 376 lb-ft. of torque. The transmission is an 8-speed automatic. Fuel economy figures are 15 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway. Hyundai has gone to great lengths to shed the image that their cars lack character. Well the new fluidic design element is evident on the 2012 Hyundai Equus. Up front the Equus shares the same style front grill as the Genesis sedan. HID Xenon headlights equipped with LED turn signals really accent the exterior of this luxury sedan. The 19-inch chrome wheels are also a great touch and they perfectly accentuate the other chrome accents parts on the exterior. The Equus can easily be mistaken for a Lexus or other high-end luxury cars. If you got behind the wheel of a 2012 Hyundai Equus, you might think you are in a Lexus LS 460. The gauges are very similar to that of other high-end luxury cars and the seat adjustments are located on the door just like they are in a Mercedes S550. There is an 8-inch navigation unit that also displays driver information located in the center dash. The whole interior is wrapped in high quality leather. There are lovely wood accents throughout. The audio is handled by a 608-watt Lexicon sound system. The driver's seats are 12-way adjustable and feature both heating and cooling. In the back there are two premium first-class seats that can recline and feature leg support. The center console in the rear is a mini fridge. The 2012 Hyundai Equus combines all the best features found on other luxury cars in one great package. It is a great choice if you are looking for something other than the run of the mill V-6 Mustang or Camaro. The base model 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe starts at $22,250 and the top of the line model goes for $32,250. There are 2 different engines offered on the Genesis Coupe. The first is a turbocharged 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 201 horsepower and 223 lb-ft. of torque. The 3.8 liter V-6 engine gives you 306 horsepower and 266 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy for the 4-cylinder is 21 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway while the V-6 engine manages 17 MPG city and 27 MPG highway. The 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe brings back the sporty fun-loving feel that the Japanese car makers were famous for many years ago. The only difference is the Hyundai Genesis is or Korean origin. The Genesis Coupe has always been lumped into the muscle car category with its front engine, rear-wheel drive platform. But the muscle cars have always held a distinct power advantage until now. The base engine for the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a turbocharged 2.0 liter 4-cylinder. Power is up 30% from 210 horsepower up to 274 horsepower. An upgraded dual-scroll turbo, larger Intercooler, and Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing help achieve these better power figures. Fuel economy for the 2.0 liter engine is 21 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway. The other engine choice is a direct-injected 3.8 liter V-6 which produces 348 horsepower. Fuel economy for this engine is expected to be 18 MPG in the city and 28 MPG in the highway. There are two transmission choices available in the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe: an 8-Speed automatic or a 6-speed manual. On the outside the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe retains the same overall shape but the styling has been changed to reflect the rest of the Hyundai line-up. Up front the Genesis receives a more aggressive look thanks to an upgraded hood with two scoops, new front fascia, and larger bumper opening. Out back the Exhaust gasses exit out dual asymmetrical chrome pipes. The lights have been upgraded to include LED daytime running lamps which can be found on high end luxury cars. The R-Spec and Track editions will receive huge 19-inch alloy wheels. On the inside the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe features an available 360-watt Infinity sound system. There are steering wheel controls for the audio system and the usual iPod, USB, and auxiliary ports. A navigation system can be purchased as an option that includes a 7-inch touch screen monitor. The rear seats have been designed with comfort in mind. Instead of stuffing 3 seats in the rear; Hyundai has decided to go with only two. This means there is a ton of room for the rear occupants. When the Hyundai Genesis Coupe arrived on the scene a few years ago it was certainly a respectable car. In fact it was this car and the sedan version that really gave Hyundai a Boost in the automotive world. Now with the 2013 model there is more power! The base model 2.0 liter Hyundai Genesis Coupe starts at $24,250 and the top of the line 3.8 liter with the track package will retail for about $33,000. The Genesis R-spec is the cheapest "luxury" full sizer you can buy, but, it's performance pales in comparison to the 300c SRT8 and Charger SRT8. However, with the ability to use regular unleaded and get over 18mpg combined, the less-expensive R-spec makes a compelling argument over buying the SRT8 model. Unfortunately, there isn't much here to justify buying an R-Spec over the 4.6-liter version of the Genesis.
