They note that the handle pulls normally, but the door will not open. The common problem is that the inner handle mechanism breaks and does not transfer the outer pull handle's motions to the latch release cable. The cure is to replace the inner handle mechanism. We have seen customers' shop quotes for hundreds of dollars to replace the inner handle mechanism ... and more than just a few incorrect parts replacement quotes (quotes to replace the incorrect parts). Since one of our purchasers had an X5 with BOTH front door handles inoperative, Otto decided to have a look and see just what the problem was and determine if the replacement is a reasonable DIY task. We found that the inner handle mechanism was indeed the culprit and the repair is no more difficult than the common window regulator replacement. Come on along as we show the steps for replacing the X5 inner door handle mechanism on a 2004 x5 3.0i. All E53 x5 models (00-06) will be as shown in this video. Note that you may wish to order a few new inner door trim panel securing clips. It is very common that some of the clips will break, or already be broken from a prior door panel removal. We replaced six clips on the door panel shown in this video. Additionally, if you find that the vapor barrier panel is ripped or damaged, this should be replaced to prevent water entry to the cabin. Bavarian Autosport stocks the clips, vapor barrier and the vapor barrier adhesive as well as the handle mechanisms. Un todoterreno amplio, dinámico y de consumos contenidos La marca alemana fabrica sus X5 en los Estados Unidos de América, más concretamente en la localidad de Spartanburg, en el estado de Carolina del Sur, y a finales del mes de abril de 2010 presentaba un restyling o actualización de la generación que está a la venta desde finales de 2006. Se trata de un todoterreno del segmento alto y gran tamaño, ya que tiene una longitud de 4,86 metros, con una anchura de 1,93 m y una altura de 1,78 metros. Los cambios en el exterior son pocos, pero acertados y contribuyen a modernizar la imagen del vehículo. Se han rediseñado los paragolpes y faldones, tanto delantero como trasero, los faros, que ahora incluyen diodos LED para la iluminación diurna y luces de posición, y los pilotos traseros, que también utilizan diodos LED en algunas funciones. En el interior sólo ha habido cambios en los mandos del climatizador, en las tapicerías y en las inserciones decorativas que se ofrecen como opción. El diseño es el habitual en los modelos de la marca y los ajustes y materiales empleados ofrecen una elevada sensación de calidad y una agradable impresión de solidez. Hay una destacable amplitud y se ofrece en opción, por 2.386 €, una tercera fila con dos asientos, aunque a costa de perder casi todo el maletero. El volumen de éste alcanza los 620 litros, aunque sin rueda de repuesto bajo el piso, que se pueden ampliar hasta los 1.750 litros abatiendo los asientos traseros, que están divididos en dos partes 60/40. El 40d probado cuenta bajo el capó con un motor de 6 cilindros en línea, colocado de forma longitudinal y con el bloque y la culata realizados en aluminio. La cilindrada es de 3 litros y cuenta con doble árbol de levas en la culata, 4 válvulas por cilindro, inyección directa por conducto común, turbocompresor de geometría variable e Intercooler. La potencia máxima es de 306 CV, que se obtienen a 4.400 rpm, y el par de empuje alcanza unos impresionantes 600 Nm, que se mantienen constantes entre las 1.500 y 2.500 rpm. La potencia disponible se transmite a las ruedas a través de una caja de cambios automática, con convertidor de par hidráulico y 8 relaciones, que tiene un funcionamiento muy bueno y se acciona desde una bonita palanca tipo joystick, que incluye una posición para cambiar de forma manual-secuencial. El X5 dispone de tracción 4x4, con el sistema que la marca denomina xDrive, pero no hay reductora. En condiciones normales, el xDrive manda un 40% de la fuerza del motor al eje delantero y un 60% al trasero, aunque estas proporciones variarán cuando alguna rueda pierda adherencia. De serie, el 40d viene con unos neumáticos en medida 255/55 en llantas de 18 pulgadas de diámetro, pero la unidad de pruebas llevaba unos exagerados e innecesarios, excepto por la estética, 275/40 delante y 315/35 detrás, montados en llantas de 20 pulgadas. Con estos neumáticos y la suspensión deportiva opcional, que cuesta 387 €, el vehículo es bastante duro de suspensión, lo que perjudica el confort. El esquema, con ejes independientes multibrazo, es de lo mejor técnicamente y el vehículo ofrece un comportamiento en carretera muy bueno para ser un todoterreno de 2.185 kg. El balanceo de la carrocería está bien contenido y el aplomo a velocidades elevadas es soberbio, pero hay que controlar las inercias en las curvas. No obstante, la agilidad, para su tamaño y peso, es destacable.
