Rhys Millen World Record Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2012
Nothing can describe what it takes to conquer Americas Mountain. After a week of little air to breath, early mornings and a Hyundai that did not skip a beat, Rhys Millen and team RMR sets a new world record with a time of 9:46.164 at the 90th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Jeremy Foley and Mike Ryan Crash at Pike's Peak 2012
Footage from Devil's Playground of Mike Ryan (Semi #7) hitting a guard rail
and Jeremy Foley (Evo #463) going off where Bobby Regester did the year
before. Thankfully, both Jeremy and his co-driver are reported to be ok and
in hospital with only minor injuries. That rollcage did its job and saved
both of the racers lives!

Rhys Millen's 750 HP V6 is bred to break Pike's Peak
Rhys Millen will attempt to beat the current "Unlimited Class" World Record
of 10:01.408 & the 10-minute barrier at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Last
June, Rhys took a Hyundai Genesis coupe to a class record in the two-wheel
drive Time Attack class with a 12:09.397. This year, Millen wants to take
the overall record back from Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima, whose held the
record since 2007, and bested Rod Millen's thirteen year old course record.
Millen is aiming to get the first ever sub-10 minute time at Pikes Peak
and he and his team have built a new car dubbed the Genesis PM580, a 1,850
pound, 750 horse power V6 beast is designed specifically to conquer the 156
turns to the top and return the world record to the Millen name.

races up one of the world's most dangerous hills. An attempt by the
"Monster" to break his own record of 10:01:41...
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (June 29, 2010) -- For the fifth consecutive time,
Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima combined experience, skill and Falken Tires to
claim overall victory in the 88th running of the Pikes Peak International
Although he did not set a new Pikes Peak record, one day before his 60th
birthday, Tajima continues to hold the current overall record for reaching
the peak, beating hill climb veterans Paul Dallenbach and Rhys Millen in
the Unlimited Class. He drove his new 910-hp Monster Sport Suzuki SX4 Hill
Climb Special on Falken WildPeak A/T tires, the powerful new line of
all-terrain, all-season tires Falken launched this past April.
Following Exhaustive tests in a
Japanese wind tunnel facility, Monster's 2010 Pikes Peak race car underwent
extensive aerodynamic changes to better adapt to the modified road surface
on the race to the clouds, which assumed a smoother tarmac and less gravel
than last year. Thinning air ascending the mountain robs most motors of
their power by 30 or more percent, but the increase in horsepower over last year's
race car helped push the driver forward.

Rhys Millen's Pikes Peak World Record Attempt
On June 27, 2010, Rhys Millen attempted to beat the current "Unlimited
Class" World Record of 10:01.408 at the 88th running of the Pikes Peak
International Hill Climb, the "Race to the Clouds." For 10 years, it has
been Rhys' dream to break the 10-minute barrier and this year he hoped to
capture the elusive record and return it to the Millen name. This is look
at his run and the challenges he faced in his custom built Genesis PM580: a
1,850 pound, 750 horse power V6 designed specifically to conquer the 156
turns of this 12.52 mile course (of which this year, half is pavement) that
begins at 9,390 feet and finishes at the 14,110 foot summit.

Pikes Peak 2012 Clips
This is the footage I was able to capture of the 90th Pikes Peak
International Hill Climb event in El Paso County, Colorado. I wasn't able
to record every car because I wanted my camera to last the whole day and
capture a wide variety of the vehicles in the race. Sorry for any shaky
camera movements, I was a little tipsy.
Camera used is a Sony DSC-HX1. The sound, video, and picture quality of
this camera is superb and I highly recommend it for anyone that wants a
portable, versatile camera that does a little bit of everything... without
the price tag of a DSLR.
