GGBC Car Show 2011 - 1951 Oldsmobile Super 88
This rare automobile is owned by Bill Stephen and he said he is very proud to show it off. Little work has been done to the car by himself, jokingly stating he trusts himself with little more than check the fluid levels, but it is in great shape and is close to what the Oldsmobile factory would have produced in the 1950s.

Hot Rod Magazine 1984 Project Car-Junk Yard Dog-1969 Cutlass S.avi
The Real Deal: Back in 1984, Marlan Davis, Tech Editor for Hot Rod magazine, wanted to do a feature on building up an inexpensive Street/Strip warrior utilizing a 1969 Cutlass S as the foundation for an A-body and equipping it with a basic Big Block engine for power. They obtained a one-owner Rocket 350 two barrel equipped Cutlass S (Power Disc Brake and Power Steering, air-conditioning equipped) they found locally in California, and removed the small block as well as the Oldsmobile specific 12 bolt rear differential, along with the air-conditioning system. In the September 1984 issue, they covered the construction of a 1968 F-2 high nickel content Rocket 455 big block, equipped with the high performing "C" casting cylinder heads, and layed in a "N" nodular iron crankshaft. They installed a Crane camshaft with a tremendous duration, at 314 degrees gross duration. This cam allowed a fairly high compression, yet enough overlap to make it run on the poor gas of the eighties without detination. The car itself was modified to accept the fresh engine, as well as a feshly rebuilt Chevelle 12 Bolt rear end sporting a 4:10 ratio gearset. The October issue detailed the remaining modifications, and the basic all white paint job. Then it was off to the strip for testing/timing. This project car was nicknamed "The Junkyard Dog"-attributing to the fact that you could build a 12 second street/strip car for cheap, using salvage yard cores and desirable parts (available readily back in 1984-good luck NOW) Marlan Davis kept the car for a few years himself, further making modifications that included Dick Gouldstrand and HO Racing suspension, to go canyon racing against the unsuspecting Porsches, while in the hills of Southern California. When I purchased the car, it was fairly well equipped, now sporting Hooker Competition Headers, MSD Ignition system, Moroso Oil Accumulator, a shift kit-equipped TH700R4 with a Corvette Torque Converter, as well as a Black with SS stripe paint job, a real W-25 option 1969 Hurst Olds 3 piece Rear Wing and updated interior. I replaced the cracked Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold with a new clear powder-coated Edelbrock "Torker" Manifold, replaced the cracked "C" Heads with freshly rebuilt ones, replaced the ill-fated (TV Cable was missing) Transmission with a pro-built TH-400 coupled to a new 3400 RPM stall Converter, installed a new Driveshaft to tie the TH-400 to the 12 Bolt rear, and completely rebuilt the brakes, electrical system (only one external light functioned) and Trick-Kit modified the big Holley 4160 Carburetor. This thing launched Hard!
