Ecco la splendida Ford Escort Rs Cosworth 4 x 4 con la quale Gianfranco Cunico e Steve Evangelisti trionfarono nel Campionato Assoluto Rally (attuale CIR) del 1994. La vettura immatricolata in Gran Bretagna sul finire dell'anno precedente, fece il suo vittorioso esordio agonistico al 28°Rally del Salento ed era dotata di alcuni particolari tecnici e meccanici innovativi per l'epoca tra i quali il sistema "Tig" che prevede l'utilizzo del tungsteno nella saldatura della scocca. Ma la Escort ex ufficiale Ford Italia Jolly Club in livrea Martini Racing (propulsore di 2.0 cc, 4 cilindri turbocompresso capace di sviluppare oltre 320 cv) fu anche una delle prime auto da rally ad essere equipaggiata su asfalto con i cerchi da 18". Oltre al "Salento", quell'anno la vettura si impose al Rally della Lanterna e al Rally Targa Florio, successi che sommati al 2° posto del Costa Smeralda e alla precedente vittoria ottenuta al Piancavallo (immatricolazione diversa) permisero al campione vicentino di aggiudicarsi per la prima volta il massimo campionato tricolore di specialità. Che macchina...stupenda!!!
