Top Gear testing Porsche 911 996
After 34 years in production the famous air-cooled 911 was replaced by an all-new water-cooled model. Known as the Type 996, this car was a major leap for Porsche, although many of the traits that defined the 911 during past decades still remained. With the new model there was finally a newly designed bodyshell (all previous 911s being based on the original 1963 shell). As with the 993 before it the 996 was also a significant model, but mainly for the way it was conceived and designed, and the effect it had on Porsche during the 1990s. Pundits criticized the 996's styling a great deal, largely because it shared its headlamps— indeed much of its front end, mechanically— with the less expensive Boxster. The 996 had been on the drawing board first and was a more advanced car in some respects, but the cost-cutting seemed inappropriate for an expensive car. Otherwise, the Pinky Lai-penned shape followed the original Butzi Porsche design very closely; the Carrera model had a 0.30 Coefficient of drag. The interior was further criticized for its plainness and its lack of relationship to prior 911 interiors, although this came largely from owners of older 911s. The Type 996 spawned over a dozen variations, including all wheel drive Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S (which had a 'turbo look') models, the club racing-oriented GT3, and the forced-induction 996 turbo and GT2. The turbo, four-wheel-drive and twin-turbo, often made appearances in magazines' lists of the best cars on sale. 996 GT3 RSThe Carrera and Carrera 4 underwent revisions for model year 2002, receiving the front headlight/indicator lights which were first seen on the turbo version two years earlier. This allowed the 911 to be more distinguishable from the Boxster. A mildly revised front fascia was also introduced, though the basic architecture remained. A limited number (1963)of 2004 40th Anniversary Editions include a more powerful 345-horsepower engine, a standard Porsche Stability Management system (PSM), enhanced acceleration due to a mechanical rear axle differential lock, more aggressive suspension tuning. Painted GT Silver metallic, the 40th Anniversary edition of the 2004 Porsche 911 Carrera has front air cooling openings like the Porsche 911 turbo, body-color air intake grilles, unique sill trim and an aluminum 911 logo on the engine cover, polished 18-inch wheels, and high-gloss chromed tailpipes. Other equipment on this limited production model includes a power sunroof and bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic beam angle control and lens cleaners. Inside the 40th Anniversary 911 Carrera, dark gray leather sport seats include two-stage heating, special silver metallic and aluminum interior trim and a numbered plaque on the center console. Photos are prominent including the inside cover fold, several inside pages, and a full two-page spread in the book's centerfold. The author focuses on Porsche 911s based on the 3.2 Carrera engine, considered by many to be the last and best true descendent of the original 1964 Porsche 911. As one of the first Factory turbo Looks imported into the United States and because of its rare color and option combination, Corlett chose to feature the car prominently as one shining example of the best work built by Porsche in the 1980s. A copy of the book will go to the new owner. The car has also appeared in the Griot's Garage Handbook, and won more than two dozen concours and People's Choice awards since 2002 — most of them from Porsche-specific events and competitions. SERVICE WORK: Receipts go back to the original owner and are believed to be complete. Almost $4,000 of preventive maintenance was done in the last 60 days at Porsche of the Village (Cincinnati) including new oil return tubes, a valve adjustment, re-wiring power seats, and other scheduled service interval work. Within the last nine years, the clutch has been replaced and 1st and 2nd gear synchros replaced (preventive). 2001 Porsche Boxster S
A coat of arms can mean a lot. It can signify unity, community, and family heritage. There is one coat of arms that also carries the reputation of world class automobile engineering: Porsche's. Now it's your time to join a distinct family of proud Porsche owners with your new Speed Yellow 2001 Porsche Boxster S Convertible with just 43,420 miles on it. From its excitingly powerful 250 horsepower engine to its aggressive handling to it's comfortable heated seats, there's not much left to be desired. This beautiful and unique vehicle has also just paid a visit to the local Porsche dealership and is in outstanding shape. Let's take a closer look at your new car. EXTERIOR: The SPEED YELLOW paint coating this car is in very good shape. The color does well to highlight the wonderful design of the Boxster. From its sumptuous curves to subtle lines, this is truly what a sport coupe should look like. This awesome convertible has a clean black automatic convertible top that is also in good shape. It does have some wear to it, being a 2001 automobile, but there are no leaks or other problems to note. Porsches are often known for their exciting power. The Boxster S is one of the reasons why. This car has a 3.2L 250 horsepower engine with 225 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates quickly and smoothly and handles extremely well. The engine comes to life when you're ready for it to, and idling purrs like a playful lion. Let's keep in mind that this car still has less than 44,000 miles on it. That boils down to less than 5,500 miles driven each year on average! Amazing. The side mirrors are power and heated so that you can easily adjust them and also be able to see where you're going at all times. The Boxster also features variable intermittent wipers with heated washer nozzles. Many people often spend a few hundred dollars getting their windows tinted. You won't have to with your new Porsche because it already has tinted windows to protect you and your car from the sun's harsh rays. You'll love the great 17" alloy Porsche wheels with Michelin tires. Finishing off the exterior's sporty look is the car's central dual Exhaust pipes. Make no mistake, this is a true sport car. INTERIOR: Porsche calls the interior color treatment BLACK. This color interior is a very desirable choice as it does well to accent and complement the striking yellow exterior. The seats are in excellent shape as is the matching carpeting. These seats are also power reclining and heated! The leather flows throughout the car to the steering wheel. You'll certainly have a great time becoming one with your car by utilizing this wonderful feature. The seven speaker sound system sounds crystal clear and you will love pumping your favorite tunes through it. Some other features of your new Porsche are: leather-wrapped shift knob, automatic up and down windows with anti-jam feature, pop out cupholders, center storage compartment, and dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors. Your new Porsche also comes with its factory mats and books, as well as two keys with built-in remotes. SAFETY: Safety is certainly important to you and Porsche wants you to stay safe. Your 2001 Boxster S is equipped with: four-wheel ABS, driver and passenger airbags, 3-point seatbelts, door mounted side impact airbags, traction control, boron steel tubing around windshield, integrated fixed supplemental safety bars with soft-touch covering, reinforced passenger compartment, crumple-zone body structure, and anti-theft system. We invite you to enjoy the many photos included and also to look at the history report to get to know your new Porsche better. Remember, though, that while this automobile is in excellent condition it is a used work vehicle and will show some signs of wear. Please consider what great savings you will have in this purchase. This 2001 model purchased new had an MSRP of over $53,000! You will save thousands while still enjoying the practicality and ease of owning this great pre-owned, but also a Porsche. Enjoy your new 2001 Porsche Boxster S, and welcome to the family!
