Refinishing beat-up alloy wheels
Last week I bought a beat-up set of wheels to use for snow tires for my 1995 Subaru Legacy.
They had been curbed pretty badly and the clear coat had peeled. In this video, I strip off the bad clearcoat, clean up the wheels, and then prime and paint them.
The final result isn't perfect, but for a total investment of around $50, which includes the wheels and materials, I'm very happy.

I've done a colour change on the wheels of my Abarth using Plasti Dip, a spray that once it's dry it creates a coat of rubber that you can easily remove whenever you want. You can see me working with Plasti Dip on one wheel showing you the process of spraying, at the end the before/after the colour change.

DIY wheel repair
WARNING: This will only work on cast aluminum allow wheels, and should only be used to repair minor lip imperfections. If you heat aluminum and cool it rapidly it can become very brittle and your wheels will crack. Please do NOT attempt to heat magnesium wheels. You do this at your own risk.
In this video I show you how to repair a curbed wheel using a product called techno-weld, and a mapp gas torch.

UPDATE: Some have messaged me asking why the aluminum brazing rod from Home Depot does not work. It will not bond to most types of wheels, the only thing I have found that works is the techno weld.
Update 06/24/2012: A lot of folks have left negative comments about how bad an idea this is, and maybe so. I take no responsibilty if you screw this up and ruin your wheels. As for the wheels I did this with in the video, they had only MINOR lip rash. They were on my car for 3 years, over 90,000 miles, 3 sets of tires, and 2 rounds of powder coat before I finally sold the car with the wheels still on it after making this video. They endured many potholes, speedbumps and rough roads over this time and I never had a problem.
I would still to this day use this repair method over using body filler for small imperfections in the lip of a wheel.
Let me repeat, I am in no way, shape, or form responsible if you screw up your wheels and/or have an accident.
