The Valley Speed FED: fired for the first time
Tim Conder fires the Valley Speed Front Engine Dragster (FED) for the very first time at the shop in Sonoma, CA with help from Pete Jensen, Chris Bochoko, Rex Hutchison and friends. AUTOCULTURE was there to record the event  ten years in the making!





Chassis Assembly
With the sub-chassis, front clip and roll cage welding complete, team Leavitt brings all three components together giving shape to the car. Rodney and Colton MIG weld at the same time to increase production while keeping a close eye on the heat input and metal draw, (which is also an important step in choosing where to sit)!

4130 Tubing - Welding Rod Test - Conclusion
My thoughts on the process. The welding rod may be important,, but it's the ability and practice that makes a strong joint. TIG or gas, all welding rods I used worked just fine. Practice, practice and more practice!!!

This is brown's FED. We thought we would break in the new tires. The engines a 383 chivy.





On-board footage of dragster crash
Blown head gasket dumps water in front of the tires causing dragster to veer into the wall and flip, landing upside down. Thanks to the excellent track emergency team and the strongly-built car, the driver sustained no injuries. The car is capable of 200+ MPH and sub-7 second 1/4 mile passes. It is powered by a turbo-charged 2.2 liter 4-cylinder GM EcoTech engine producing nearly 1600 HP.

Front Engine Dragster built in five months
In December 2009 I got the idea that it would be fun to have a FED so I asked a few questions and read a few threads on the HAMB. After wieghing all the advice and suggestions I bought a set of Mark Williams blue prints and got started. With the help of a good friend or two I had a can the was ready to race at Eagle Field in May 2010.
