Lotus Elan + 2
I bought this car with the intention of a complete restoration, but as with
a lot of plans they change so I am offering it for sale. The paintwork will
need to be taken back to gell-coat and fully re-sprayed. It sustained
damage to the drivers door hinge and off-side wing which has been repaired
but needs final finishing. I would definitely recommend viewing but I will
try to describe it as well as I can.
The car has undergone a lot of work mainly to get it running and to pass
MOT. The inner sill seat belt mountings have been replaced with galvanised
ones and the seat belt plates have been replaced with stainless steel
plates, also the four inner wheel arch covers have been replaced. All bolts
which have been used are stainless steel. The carbs were stripped and all
jets cleaned, the oil and oil filter have been replaced, the distributor
cap, leads, points and plugs. I refurbished the fuel tank and she fired up
and runs well with a small amount of smoke as she has not been run for
years. The front brakes were freed up and the master cylinder sills
replaced. Some of the metal brake pipes were also replaced. The servo was
dismantled and cleaned but may need a new diaphragm. The clutch master
cylinder and slave cylinder are new and it goes into gear easily, the
gearbox and differential are good. The engine has a slight oil leak coming
from between the head and the front cover. The radiator had a small hole
which I repaired. The engine runs up to temperature and the cooling fan
cuts in and has no issues with overheating at all.
The number plate is non date related and very valuable. 'Reg Registrations'
have valued it as a return to me at £1,400. I would assume they will
advertise it for £2000+
The Exhaust has an aftermarket
stainless steel rear box - it sounds good! but it may not be to your taste
as it's not original.
The interior has new sound proofing, brand new carpets and the seats and
door cards are in excellent condition. The dashboard has its usual patina.
The roof lining and the tops of the rear panels are damaged but I do have a
new headliner and covering for the side panels which will come with the
car. The current roof lining is white, but what I am supplying is black (to
match the rest of the interior).
Overall the chrome is in fair condition. The rear bumper has a small amount
of rust but the front bumper is clean. The front windscreen chrome is in
very good condition and is not the plastic type.
The electric windows work but very slowly and will need looking at. The
front windscreen is slightly cloudy and has a small chip at the top right
out of the swept area, which does not affect the MOT. The rear screen
rubber is new.
The headlamp pods are fixed in an open position and as it is the non fail
safe I've had to wire the side lights and headlights to the fog light
switches in the car. To get it through the MOT. The original switches are
in place and do work, all you'll need is two vacuum pods and some of the
piping for the headlights to operate normally.
Galvanised sill member kit (fitted)
Stainless steel seat belt plate kit (fitted)
Brand new headlamp bowls and headlamps (fitted)
Brand new O/S/F lamp
Brand new N/S/R lense
All new anti-roll bar bushes
Spark plugs, points, leads, distributor cap rotor arm and coil
new clutch mastercylinder
new clutch slave cylinder
Overall this is a driving restoration which will need a good respray to get
it to a show condition. I have tried to describe the car as best as I can.
It will be available to view at the Enfield Car Pageant of Motoring (25th -
