Troy Lee Designed Livery For Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 RSR - 24 Heures Du Mans 2011
ICONOGRAPHY STUDIOS WRAPS THE FLYING LIZARD SPECIAL LIVERY FOR THE TEAM'S FIRST TWO-PORSCHE LE MANS RACE IN FRANCE ON JUNE 11, 2011 Iconography teams up in joint project with artist Troy Lee to produce the Flying Lizard commemorative livery for the No. 80 and No. 81 Flying Lizard Porsches for the 2011 24 Heures du Mans. Los Alamitos, CA (June 7, 2011) -- Created by California-based artist Troy Lee and wrapped by Iconography Studios, the livery celebrates the history of Porsche at LeMans, featuring the 28 drivers who have won the 24 Heures du Mans overall in a Porsche. The No. 80 and No. 81 designs are identical, implemented in complementary colors: candy metallic orange for the No. 80 and candy metallic blue for the No. 81; both anchored by a deep ocean blue. Primary colors provide a backdrop for the driver names and flags which weave throughout the design on the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. Troy Lee's concepts were derived from each of the driver's country flags, using vibrant colors to bring the designs to life in 3D. Showing off the depth and movement of the amazing cars, while maintaining the integrity of the Porsche design, was their biggest challenge. "We worked hand and hand with Troy and his team," said James Naccarato, Owner of Iconography Studios. "They created the concept and design with Flying Lizard and we brought it to life on the Porsches with the help of our top of the line Roland printer machines." "A crucial part of this project was getting the right paint: We worked extensively with PPG Industries to develop these custom colors, both for their liveliness and for the depth of the metallic colors. Using the candy paint as a base, we then created the intricate backdrop of asymmetric shapes to balance the design and create the sense of speed," said Lee. Flying Lizard initiated the project with Troy Lee in late 2010. "We worked with Troy's team for several months to finalize the concept and design. The livery is a combination of candy paint overlaid with vinyl. The vinyl was custom-tailored to each Porsche and applied at our shop in Sonoma by Iconography Studios," described Flying Lizard VP of Marketing Jennifer Hart. I allow no modifications of my work without permission. I call it the 2013 Porsche 918-LH Spyder (GT1). I chose 918-LH because the model number 918, is reminiscent of 917, (hence the 8), so I decided to add a reminiscent LH model number. Since the 918-LH wouldnt be able to race in the same class the 917 did (that class is non-existent), Porsche may decide to place it in the GT1 class. The 918 Spyder comes with 2 electric motors, and a 500hp V8 from the RS Spyder LMP-2 car. The 918-LH Spyder will drop the electric motors, but will retain the KERS, and 500hp V8. Since GT1 regulates no more than 600hp, Porsche may remove air-restrictors from the engine to Boost the output to 600hp. The 918-LH Spyder will top out in the 200mph range, and will reach 62mph in less than 3.0 seconds, possibly 2.8 seconds. The weight will be around 1,240 kilos, 2,730 lbs. The weight loss will come from the loss of the batteries, stripped interior and loss of amenities, even more extensive use of carbon fiber, and a reconstruction of body-work. Changes in the body work will come from a wider track, redesigned front and rear diffusers, as well as a fixed hard-top roof. There will be a very large rear spoiler; the current one will be fixed. The ram air scoops positioned over the 600hp V8 will be permanently opened for even more delivery of power. The 918-LH Spyders headlight system will receive a minor revision as well as the taillights. It will also get new mirrors positioned over the front-wheels straight from the Carrera GT. If the 918-LH Spyder does become a reality, it will likely debut at the 2013 24hrs of Le Mans, as well as in the Le Mans Series. As well as rendered bodywork, I also took the time took the time to render several liveries reminiscent of 70s 917 designs. I currently have a few rendered, one also for "TeamSpeed.com", I'm working on a few now, and will post them later. *Note; All vehicles are liveried according to 2013 speculated Le Mans 24 specification.
