Pikes Peak 2011 near miss
Ralph Murdoch's 1970 Camaro drifted out of the normal
line and nearly went off the road. His back tire was in the loose stuff
when he gunned it spraying me with dust and gravel. The only casualty was a
chipped camera lens and mouthful of dirt, but no one was hurt and Murdoch
went on to win the vintage class with a time of 12:51.004.
What you can't see from the video is that this is in an S-curve and the
other cars were hugging the apex on the other side of the road from me. I
was joined at this spot throughout the day by other seasoned photographers
and even a race official said it was a safe spot to shoot. But like any
rally event, anything can happen. If you still feel the need to comment and
tell me how much you wish I was dead, knock yourself out.
