Recently we came across this beautiful Volkswagen Karmann Ghia 1600 Cabriolet 1971 at The Gallery in Brummen, The Netherlands. We took the car for a little spin! The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is a sports car marketed in both 2+2 coupe (1955--1974) and convertible (1957--1974) body styles by Volkswagen. The Karmann Ghia combined the chassis and mechanicals of the Type 1 (Beetle) with styling by Luigi Segre of the Italian carrozzeria Ghia and hand-built bodywork by the German coach-builder Karmann. The Karmann Ghia was internally designated the Type 14. Volkswagen later introduced a variant in 1961, the Type 34, featuring angular bodywork and based on the newly introduced Type 3 platform. Production doubled soon after its introduction,[5] becoming the car most imported into the U.S.[5] American industrial designer Walter Dorwin Teague included the Type 14 in his list of the world's most beautifully designed products.[6] More than 445,000[3] Karmann Ghias were produced in Germany over the car's production life -- not including the Type 34 variant. Karmann Brazil produced 41,600 cars locally for South America between 1962 and 1975.

1971 VW Karmann Ghia Convertible for Sale

This cute little Ghia has lived in a barn for the past 24 years! It is happy to be in my garage with other good VW company, but I already have a yellow Ghia Convertible so this one is up for sale. The long-time owner said he took the car out every year to keep things fresh. When I looked at the car he admitted it had been 3 years since it had been driven. The barn was on a dirt road way out in the Minnesota prairie. It was a fun find. Convertible Karmann Ghias are definitely one of my favorite barn finds for a classic car. Before the construction of the first prototype of the 501, Böning had calculated the mass of the car as designed, and realized that the six-cylinder engine would be barely adequate to power the car. He proposed the development of a larger engine to power future versions of the car to the management, who accepted his proposal. Böning began the design and development of a V8 engine similar in general design to the then-new Oldsmobile Rocket V8, with a single camshaft in the vee operating overhead valves in wedge-shaped combustion chambers through pushrods.[8] The BMW OHV V8 engine differed from its Detroit contemporaries in the use of an aluminium alloy block[11] with cast-iron cylinder liners,[12] and in its smaller size, initially with a 74 millimetres (2.9 in) bore and a 75 millimetres (3.0 in) stroke, giving a displacement of 2,580 cc (157 cu in).[12][13] The development of the V8 was completed by Fritz Fiedler, who replaced Böning as BMW's chief engineer in 1952.[8] The V8 engine was introduced at the 1954 Geneva Motor Show as the engine of the new BMW 502 saloon car.[9][11] Using the same chassis and basically the same body as the 501,[9] the 502 was more luxuriously appointed[9][11] and, with its light V8 engine producing 100 horsepower (75 kW) with a single two-barrel Solex carburettor,[9][13] was much faster.[9][11] The published top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph) was far higher than that of the first six-cylinder version of the Ponton Mercedes launched the same year. At the time of its introduction the 502 was reportedly Germany's fastest passenger sedan in regular production.[14] The 502 was acclaimed as Germany's first post-war V8 powered car,[14] but its high price of DM17,800 led to low sales; only 190 were sold in its first year of production.[9] The 502 was distinguished from the 501 by additional chrome trim and more lavish interior fittings. Fog lights and individual front seats were also now included as standard features.[14] The 502 was mildly restyled in 1955 with a wraparound rear window.[

It been a long time since the last video on the install (September 2012 to be exact). The top arrived from TMI by way of HOG and this video shows the installation of the canvas top onto the headlined and padded frame. I will have one more video in this series showing the finishing touches and adding all the necessary seals around the windows.

Total of 443,466 cars - 362,585 coupes and 80,881 convertibles Volkswagen sold between 1955 and 1974. The technology of the Karmann-Ghia Type 14 was almost identical except for a few details with the VW Käfer. Der VW Karmann-Ghia Typ 14 wurde bei Karmann in Osnabrück gebaut. Please help us keep making them by liking our videos. Thank you very much! The Ferrari Mondial is a 2+2 coupe automobile produced by Ferrari from 1980 through 1993. It replaced the angular 208/308 GT4. The "Mondial" name came from Ferrari's history — the famed 500 Mondial race car of the early 1950s. Despite its predecessor being Bertone styled, the Mondial saw Ferrari return to Pininfarina for styling. It was sold as a mid-sized coupe and, eventually, a cabriolet. The Mondial was conceived as a 'usable' model, offering the practicality of four seats and the performance of a Ferrari. The car had a slightly higher roofline than its stablemates, with a single long door either side, offering easy access and good interior space, reasonable rear legroom, while all-round visibility was excellent.
